Well designed | | Review Date: May 19, 2007 | | Reviewer: Dylan Ginsburg, | This mount works great. The selection of Garmin mounts is confusing as some are two parts and some are one. If you have a Nuvi with the included windshield mount, then this is the only part you need to buy. The included mount disassembles at the ball and socket joint and attaches to this one. I can't say it will never come off the dash if I do some really high speed maneuver, but so far it's held steady for all regular driving. I like that it's easy to move the mount and gps unit down to the floor when I park. Yeah a thief could still see it if they came right up to my car but at least it's not obvious from halfway across the parking lot like a windshield mount is. A thief that sees an empty windshield mount is probably going to assume (correctly) that I've just put the unit in the glove compartment. |
Finally, the right mounting solution | | Review Date: June 16, 2007 | | Reviewer: Richard Buck, Seattle, Washington | I have become addicted to my Garmin Nuvi 660 and used it for six months with a successful windshield mount. But now I have bought a new car. I discovered that the windshield suction mount left an ugly black ring on the window of my old car. (I assume I can get this cleaned up when I detail the car for selling.) So no way was I going to put one of those on my beautiful new car. I tried the Garmin dashboard mount but shied away from the "permanent" disc. I found the "temporary" disc was just not up to the job of holding this device in place -- at least on my vehicle. I found this very frustrating. I read about the Portable Friction Mount, found a Best Buy store that had it in stock and ran out to buy it. Though it is not terribly good looking, it does the job very well. I tried whipping around a few tight turns in parking lots and the whole thing stayed put. As another reviewer said, this lets you easily remove the thing and put it on the floor so it's not obvious. That may be more valuable than you would think. I know somebody who removed his Garmin Nuvi (and took it with him) but left the window mount in place. The car was broken into and the window mount alone was stolen. (Probably that was a pretty frustrated thief.) Also, this will be easy to transfer to a rental car. And it will make it easy for my wife to borrow my Nuvi. Hmmm! |
Stable but here's an easy improvement | | Review Date: June 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: Brent Thompson, New London, PA USA | | While the friction mount on the bottom of the beanbag is pretty darn stable even with stops, starts, and turns I sometimes would find it sliding across the dash. The solution has been to use one of those little 6x4 inch mats sold at Radio Shack or Walmart for keeping cellphones on the dash. The mat is sticky on one side but leaves no marks or glue. I have not had one slide since using the mat. I even bring the mat with me in rental cars. This gives a very secure mount that is very easy to take from car to car. |
Just the right mount for a Garmin Nuvi (works with all Nuvis) | | Review Date: December 2, 2007 | | Reviewer: Anjana Nigam, Minneapolis, MN | The first time I tried this mount was in a rental car for a Garmin C530, and I never thought it would stay on the slightly sloping dash of the Pontiac Grand Prix but it held firm going up and down San Francisco's hilly roads. That prompted me to buy one for my car. Essentially this mount is a bean bag with a mouse pad like rubber base but its engineered to stay where you put it and not slide around unless you move it. The good thing is that it stays put even if you brake suddenly, and if you drive in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic like me every day you'll appreciate this even more! The advantages are: - No sticking on windshield. This is a BIG advantage as the windshield mount starts to come off easily after a year of usage, less if you leave it in your car while it's parked in the sun. There is nothing worse than your GPS sliding off while you're driving round a tricky bend, especially if you are new to the area. Sometimes it can be downright dangerous. - The windshield mount also alerts thieves that a GPS is in the car. A friction mount can be placed down under the car seat when you leave the car without needing to disconnect anything so that you're ready to go quickly when you come back to the car. - The other big advantage is the ability to move it around to the position you want it. If a passenger is sitting in your car you can just slide it to their side and they can input the information while you are driving. It also makes it easy to slide it closer to yourself. Since I have the Nuvi 660 I often make calls with the bluetooth feature while driving, it is easy to slide it towards me when I am speaking to someone in order to get better voice reception. This mount works for all Nuvis as they have the "snap the ball in the joint". If you buy any model of Nuvi then this is all you need, no other adapter parts are needed. It's also easy to switch this mount between cars or move it to a rental car when you travel. It has been the best and most useful accessory I could buy for my Nuvi 660. |
EXCELLENT | | Review Date: September 1, 2007 | | Reviewer: Mary Chrapliwy, NJ, USA | I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 350 to use for work since I travel quite a bit for my job. I was hesitant about buying the friction mount because I worried that it wouldn't stay put. I'm happy to report that I was wrong. I recently used this friction mount with my Nuvi 350 on a long trip from NJ to Maine. Not only did it stay put exactly where I placed it on my dashboard for the entire trip, but it stayed put in a near accident. On one of the many highways we traveled, there was a car accident ahead and everyone in my lane slammed on the brakes. Now, mind you, we were all traveling at approximately 60-65 miles per hour. I'm most happy to report that we didn't collide with anyone. ---> Amazingly, the friction mount and my Nuvi didn't move an inch. You can buy this friction mount with complete confidence. If it didn't move in the situation I was in, it won't move with normal driving. Not only that, but it is easy to remove and stow your friction mount and Nuvi without leaving evidence that you have a GPS (now a favored target for theives).

really easy to set up and use. | | Review Date: August 15, 2007 | | Reviewer: Carol, Chatsworth, CA United States | I justed pulled my Nuvi 660 off the window attachment, the ball just popped right out, then pushed it onto this ball. It works great, even has a lock/unlock, so you can slide the GPS out of the base easily, or lock it into place. It's easy to move the GPS to get just the right angle but it stays put once It's how I like it. I don't have too much trouble with the unit sliding around. I have a large, flat dash and if it were going anywhere, there's nothing to stop it, but it stays where I put it(I'm not a speeder and don't take turns sharper than I have to). As I live in California where I can't use the window attachment, I wish it would have come with this option. I wouldn't want to stick sticky tape on my leather dash. So far, I"m real happy with it. UPDATE: After a month or so driving around with this thing on my dash, I'm as happy as ever. It hasn't moved at all, over pumps, up or down really steep hills, even with the power cord pulling on it (as I have it plugged into my cigarette lighter all the time). It's light enough and small enough to move easily and tuck away, it doesn't get in the way at all when I'm driving. I think it's perfect and I love it. |
Works great | | Review Date: March 10, 2007 | | Reviewer: cw-mojo, New Jersey | | Although I was skeptical, this holds onto the dash in both my Highlander and RX300. The ball attached directly to the mount that came with my Nuvi 360. No other kits were required. |
Works with the Garmin Nuvi 660 -- no additional mount to purchase | | Review Date: June 14, 2007 | | Reviewer: elenagracia, coronado, ca usa | As one of the other reviewers stated, it is unclear whether certain Garmin GPS units require one or more additional parts for the portable mounts. This portable friction mount works perfectly with the Garmin Nuvi 660 -- you do need the bracket that holds the GPS unit from the suction cup mount that ships with the Nuvi 660. Just remove it and snap it on to the ball of the friction mount. The mount itself works perfectly -- my GPS stays put in typical California driving (which has included a few sudden braking maneuvers at rush hour). Excellent solution for those who want to be able to use the GPS in multiple vehicles. |
This is the one you need for a Nuvi--complete & works well | | Review Date: July 17, 2007 | | Reviewer: a viewer, USA | I bought this friction mount for my Nuvi 350, and used both on a recent driving vacation. Both worked even better than expected! Amazon's listings are a little confusing--If you have a Nuvi, don't buy the one that says "for Garmin GPS". Get this one instead. With this one, you don't need to purchase anything else, just use the little bracket that comes with the Nuvi unit. (Put the bracket onto the mount without the GPS in it--it takes some pressure or a little twisting to get the bracket to snap onto the ball of the mount. But once it's on, you won't need to take the bracket off the mount. The GPS snaps into and out of the bracket easily--the bracket and mount stay together as one piece.) The literature with the GPS unit said that the dash mount adhesive is hard to remove, so I didn't want that on my car's dash. Some reviews said the windshield mount could melt to the glass and I didn't want that, either. Also, some say that thieves will break into your car even if they can only see the windshield mount, assuming the GPS is in the car somewhere. So, I wanted the friction mount. It was about $28 at amazon. After using it, I like it even better than I thought I would. It holds VERY well; I never had a problem with it slipping even once. It's easy to reposition, for example if the sun is hitting it the wrong way, and it's easy to put into the console when you park so that nothing shows to tempt theives. Also, it can just stay plugged in to the car's power outlet. The cord plugs into the bracket on the mount instead of directly into the Nuvi, which is convenient. The Nuvi unit itself easily releases from the mount, with no cords to unplug, and is easy to take with you. The only disadvantages I can come up with are that it is a separate purchase (but is complete), and it's not beautiful (but neither are the other mounts, I guess). If you can't or don't want to use the windshield or permanent dash mounts, try this one. I'm glad I bought it. A suggestion to amazon would be to describe all these mounts & other accessories a little better--lots of postings say they bought the wrong mount or bought accessories that were already included with the GPS unit, because they were listed on the product page with the GPS unit. By the way, I love the Nuvi 350!

Very sturdy mount...a must have for all Nuvi users | | Review Date: October 4, 2007 | | Reviewer: Vee, NY | The Garmin Portable Friction Mount for Nuvi is very sturdy and attaches to my Garmin Nuvi 660 with no problem. The beanbag design is awesome and works better than my old rubber weighted dashboard mount that I had with my previous SteetPilot c340. With that mount the rubber legs started to get too pliable and didn't stay on my dash as firmly as it used to. My old mount sort of stayed on the dash but would jump around, slide a bit and one day when I made a very sharp fast turn, my c340 went flying onto the floor. With the Nuvi Beanbag Mount weighted design, there's no chance of this happening. The mount stays put and sits firmly on my dashboard even on bumpy roads and sharp turns. This mount is great though I wish it was included with my Garmin Nuvi 660 instead of the windshield mount. |
It works | | Review Date: August 5, 2007 | | Reviewer: Danlib, Gray, TN USA | | I got tired of the spot left by the window mount, and it falling off every once in a while. This really holds my Nuvi in place. It doesn't move even on winding roads. |
Works Great! | | Review Date: May 11, 2007 | | Reviewer: vball4fun, Maryland | | I was a little skeptical, but saw the reviews and decide to give it a try. It actually works well. I have a Nuvi 350 and where I want to put the nuvi on my RAV4's dash is actually curve and a little V-shape, so I can't get all 4 sides to be completely touching the dash, but it is working great! I put it where I can easily reach the nuvi (windshield mount would be farther away and I think it is safer to be able to reach it easier if you need to). It is easy to take down and hide - you are not advertising you may have a gps in your car. It is also easy to transport to use in another car. |
When the suction mount fails, this is the best alternative | | Review Date: June 30, 2007 | | Reviewer: Briggsmo, Boston | Like so many other who have written reviews for this product, the suction mount that came with the Nuvi failed miserably leaving black goo all over my windshield and never sticking properly again. Realizing that it was a widespread problem, I looked for other mounting methods and found this one. I am pleased with the effectiveness of this product. The friction between the mount and the dashboard holds quite well in standard driving -- turns don't seem to make it shift at all. I did notice that going over potholes and train tracks, that the mount does shift a little, but I found it easy to slide it back into place. I find that I like the flexibility of positioning this mount. With the windshield mount, the unit was always at a specified distance from me, but with this moveable mount I found that I could position the Nuvi closer to me to make it easier to see and easier to use. (An unexpected bonus) I also like that I can move it so that it isn't obvious to thieves that I have a GPS unit in the car. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with was the physical size of the mount. It is about 8 inches by 6 inches and takes up a large section of my small dashboard. Also its size makes storing it in the car difficult as it doesn't fit in the glove box. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives, but I still wish that Garmin didn't have problems with the suction cups that made buying this a necessity. |
The best solution for your Garmin Nuvi | | Review Date: February 13, 2008 | | Reviewer: Stephen M. Charme, Cranford, NJ United States | I own the Garmin Nuvi 660 and over the last five months have tried alternatives to the suction cup on the windshield--industrial strength velcro on the dashboard(doesn't work in the summer because of the heat)and a vent mount(I got one from Mount Guys, but it kept coming out on sharp turns). Then I decided to give the friction mount a try, and must say that it is the best solution, esepcially for someone like me who has multiple vehicles. The dashboard in my cars vary in shape(level, slanted), size (wide, narrow) and material (vinyl, leather). It makes no difference. This product securely holds my Nuvi in place at high speeds, sudden stops on the brake, and sharp turns. The trick for me is to place the product so that it is as close to the windshield as possible rather than on the edge of the dashboard. It takes just a second to connect and disconnect the Nuvi from this unit, and using it in different cars is effortless. There is nothing to attach (execept the Nuvi to the product) because this product is essentially a weighted beanbag, but designed much better than a standard beanbag. Keep in mind that no mounting system is foolproof, but compared to everything else that I have tried, this is the best way to go. |
fixed object to portable companion | | Review Date: April 19, 2008 | | Reviewer: David A. Baer, Indianapolis, IN USA | After discovering this product, one wonders why we ever stuck those adhesive mounts to our windshields to announce to passing thieves, 'Stop here! Easy hit!'. I was costing my organization $10 per day to rent a GPS from National Car Rental until it dawned on me that the same, fabulously functional friction mount that the rental companies used might be available commercially. Voilà, I now take my own Garmin Nüvi with me on trips, stick the compact Portable Dashboard Mount in my briefcase, and use my own GPS rather than rent one at expensive per-day rates. A side benefit is that use of my own GPS allows me to accumulate destinations in my database rather than use them once and hand them back in a rented GPS unit. The Friction Dashboard Mount is preternaturally stable. You have to be doing some serious slalom moves in your car to get it to slide from its intended place on the dash of your car. I find myself using this mount in my own car at home now rather than going back to the adhesive windshield mount. This is one of those rare no-fault, simple-design, highly effective products that brings a categorical improvement to one of life's recurrent experiences at a reasonable cost. |
Quite Dependeable | | Review Date: May 13, 2007 | | Reviewer: Saul S. Singh, South Richmond Hill, New york United States | I used this device to hold my GPS device in both the Honda Civic and Acura TL. It was great and never moved despite fast turns and hard braking. Highly recommended!

Great Mount | | Review Date: May 12, 2007 | | Reviewer: J. A. Miller, Los Angeles, CA | | Great mount if you're changing cars frequently or doing a lot of traveling. Got us from CA to NJ to MI across Canada in a variety of vehichles and road conditions without slipping once. High praise and recommendation. |
better than out of the box | | Review Date: July 19, 2007 | | Reviewer: Mary Bishop, Las Cruces, NM USA | | My daughter gave me her Nuvi 660 when she got a new car with a built-in nav. I was using it propped up on my windshield because the original discs didn't stick. Amazon reviews helped me find this, and it works perfectly, nice and heavy. The round knob thing on the Nuvi clicks right into the holder, nothing else needed. It stays steady on the dashboard so you can tap the touchscreen, and you can tuck the whole thing out of sight on the floor when you park. Garmin should make this an option at purchase. |
Stable mount and easy on/off for the Garmin Nuvi | | Review Date: August 31, 2007 | | Reviewer: E Lepotakis, Pittsfield, Ma | I purchased this item from Amazon with the initial purchase of a Nuvi 350 Unit (also reviewed) and have found it to be a very good add on. The bracket included with the Nuvi Unit allows for not only the ability to attach the unit but as well a place for power cord for the vehicle. Once attached to the bean bag friction mount it's a snap to attach or remove the Nuvi Unit. The mount holds steady in its place and does not seem to slide around with vehicle movement. When mounting the bracket to the friction mount, do so prior to attaching the Nuvi GPS as it is a fairly tight fit and requires some force to snap in place. Once attached however, it really does not need to be removed as you can take the friction mount from vehicle to vehicle and seems adaptable to any dash I have thus far placed it on. All, in all I would recommend this over the suction cup mount provided as it offers a much better alternative for keeping your Garmin Nuvi secure in its place. One final suggestion, make sure you order the correct unit for your GPS. Some have ordered the friction mount not realizing that they have purchased just the platform minus the mounting stem. Amazon's # is 010-10908-00 |
Works great! | | Review Date: March 19, 2007 | | Reviewer: K. Wren, Hamilton, OH United States | | Stays in place and is a very secure mount. No more looking through dangling wires by having the GPS attached to my windshield. Highly recommended!! |
Great Garmin Portable Friction Mount | | Review Date: March 23, 2007 | | Reviewer: E. Chun, San Franciso, CA | I was very skeptical if this friction mount would work because I read reviews saying that it flies off the dash. I have an X-5 and the dash is curved, but the friction mount ACTUALLY works. It stays in place even though I have stopped suddenly. In fact, I think I will get another one for my other car.

Friction mount works well with the C530 | | Review Date: May 11, 2007 | | Reviewer: Nandasiri Samarakone, California | I have a Garmin C530 attached to this mount in my Honda CRV. Works well I notice no movement at all in everyday driving. The ability to simply lift the unit and place it on the floor out of sight from prying eyes on parking is another plus. This saves the constant wera nd tear on the electrical contacts. Reccomended |
Awesome | | Review Date: May 14, 2007 | | Reviewer: Deanna D. Ruedy, Oxnard, CA | | If you live in MN or CA where it putting your GPS on the windshield is not allowed, this is the next best alternative. It doesn't move when you turn the corner and it is much better than trying to find a place for that circular disk. |
Great Product | | Review Date: June 18, 2007 | | Reviewer: G. Parks, Nashville, TN USA | | After two suction mounts and cleaning lots of black goo of my windshield, I decided to try the friction mount. Great product. Stays put, and superior to window mound in lots of ways. Move to whatever spot on the dash is best for any lighting conditions. |
Just what you need. Forget the windshield mount. | | Review Date: September 20, 2008 | | Reviewer: D. Joshi, Automotive | Why have a windshield mount that just works in one car? This one makes the garmin truly portable. Sharp turns, bumps, quick stops does not move the unit at all. I have the Nuvi 660 and its the only mount you need. I just wish Garmin makes this standard and offers the windshield mount as optional. But its not a perfect world, I suppose. I have a Honda accord, Ford Edge and I have used this in Honda Odyssey, Toyota Corolla and Chevy Equinox. None of the cars that I used this, with my Nuvi, had any problems with the base moving out of place, etc. My advice - get this and you won't regret it. |
Great mount | | Review Date: May 12, 2007 | | Reviewer: Michael A. Keating, Westwood, New Jersey United States | Just received this mount last night. Appear to have a great texture to hold from slipping on the dash or where ever you may place it. A bit over priced for what it is, but if it works and means no holes in the dash board, its worth it.

Stable and works great. | | Review Date: September 27, 2007 | | Reviewer: Michael, Fairfax County, Virginia | | This item works great. I travel to California now and then and it is always an issue how to position my GPS since you can't attach it to the windshield. This solves the problem. It is very stable (more than I thought it would be) and the holder slips out to make packing a breeze. Lots of swivel gives you just about any viewing option you need. And then you can lock that position in place. The price is great here on Amazon. You can't go wrong. I use it more than I had thought (not just in California). When I park the car I just move the whole thing to the floor which hides the fact I have a GPS in the car. I never took the windshield mount down in the past, which was a dead giveaway. Great product. Price is right! |
Easy to use, stable and won't fall off your windshield. | | Review Date: October 16, 2008 | | Reviewer: MacInTX, TX | | I got tired of the suction cup mount for my GPS falling off the windshield. I bought this as a substitute and it proved extremely useful. The bean bag type base holds down the mount so that it doesn't slide around the dash yet you can easily pull it off and put it away when you park. |
It's a good stuff!! | | Review Date: March 19, 2007 | | Reviewer: C. CHEN, | This Portable Friction Mount can stand on my dash and never fall down! Strongly recommend!! |
Nuvi Friction Mount | | Review Date: June 13, 2007 | | Reviewer: Gary T. Blore, Springfield, VA | | Excellent product. Fairly small and compact for friction/weight mount. Previously had one for Magellan product that was much heavier, bulkier, hard to transport. This one is reasonably small, fits in glove box, heavy enough to hold NUVI in place in my sedan but not too heavy to pack. Would buy another tomorrow! Highly recommended. |
Must have accessory | | Review Date: June 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: D. Gaylord, MI, USA | | I purchased this based on the review of another Amazon user, to you I want to say THANK YOU! While Garmin has the best suction cup mounts going, they still scream to a thief, HEY THERE'S A GPS IN THIS CAR! With the bean bag dash mount, my 350 was off the mount and in the glove box and the bean bag mount was easily stashed out of view, no evidence of a GPS for a thief. It holds the unit in place with no problems of sliding around on the dash. It was purchased through an Amazon partner (ANTOnline) that got it here on time with the expedited shipping, highly recommended. |
Simple - practical and effective | | Review Date: October 1, 2007 | | Reviewer: Steven Perry, In the Maelstrom | I purchased the friction mount as the windshield suction mounting system (that works just fine) is illegal here in California, also it kind of clashed with my fuzzy dice, but we're not talking about aesthetics here.... This product is as simple as can be. It is a rubber bottom weighted platform that allows you to attach your Garmin GPS, in my case the StreetPilot c530, to it with the standard ball mounting. And then it just sits their on your dash. The operative verb here (in-transient as it is transient) is sits. It goes no where, it doesn't slip, slide or otherwise slither from its place of intended repose. And for that it gets a veritable constellation of stars! Yes, it is that good. PS: It is easier to slip your Garmin under the seat (mount and all) then prying suction from glass, or ball from socket. |
Solved my problems | | Review Date: October 2, 2007 | | Reviewer: Richard L. Barbeau, | I bought my Nuvi 350 based on a recommendation of a trusted friend and must say that I am quite happy with it. The only complaint I have is the adherence of the suction cup mount. It came off on the first two attempts to use the unit. I am sure that the manufacturer would advise that I clean my windshield and the unit would have held. My response would be that this was on a brand new car with virtually zero miles on the odometer prepped for delivery by a professional car dealership. In a word(s) "clean window". The unit held for 40 min. of an hour trip landing on my passenger's lap. It was remounted for the remaining ride and return trip only to come off 10 minutes from home. I have been told that I should not leave my unit in my automobile at night because it is a favorite target of thieves (who, I've been told look for telltale suction cup marks). I've solved both problems with a second purchase, a portable friction mount made by Garmin. It's a beanbag chair/mount with a skid proof bottom that can be placed on just about any regular or irregular horizontal surface. If it sounds clunky it isn't. There a four lobes to the beanbag each lobe splayed out every 90 degrees keeping it at a resonably low profile. The Nuvi can be mounted, placed on the dash, dismounted and stowed away without hassle. Some of the other mounts require permanent gluing of the mount to your dashboard. I believe this should be the standard base provided with the unit. In a few states the suction cup mounts aren't even allowed (probably a visibility issue). |
Perfect stand for my Nuvi 360 | | Review Date: October 5, 2007 | | Reviewer: R. Jones, Bay Area, CA USA | | I live in California, where it's illegal to mount the Navigation units to the windshield, so I was searching for a better solution than a mount that would have to be glued to my dashboard. The friction mount is perfect. It doesn't move at all, sits exactly where I need it to in order to see the unit and doesn't ruin my car in any way. I had actually mounted my windshield mount for a while, and when I removed it it left a black ring on the windshield, so that solution is far from perfect. |
Highly recommend the Friction Mount for Nuvi GPS | | Review Date: October 24, 2007 | | Reviewer: S. Nagao, Irvine, CA USA | Because California does not allow you to mount the GPS unit on the car windshield, I purchased the Garmin Portable Friction Mount for my Nuvi 360 GPS unit. I am very happy with the mount. Initially, I thought it would slide all over the top of my dashboard, but it doesn't. It stays put. I love how easy it is to attach and remove my Nuvi from the mount. It is so portable and very easy to use. I highly recommend this Friction Mount. You will not be disappointed.

Worth every penny! | | Review Date: October 24, 2007 | | Reviewer: T. Madden, Shenandoah Valley, VA | | After our Nuvi 350 fell off the windshield for the 10th time on a trip to Boston, I had my wife pull the car up outside a BestBuy so I could run in to see if they had the beanbag. Everyone online loved it and I had nothing to lose. 3 minutes later I was back in the car and cutting the clamshell package open. Absolutely the best accessory for your Nuvi. Doesn't budge an inch, keeps you legit in states with window-mount laws, stores on the floor in a pinch in unsavory neighborhoods and packs flat for trips. Perfect! |
Great in many ways | | Review Date: October 29, 2007 | | Reviewer: Anthony L. Pena, Nashville, TN USA | | I've been using this with my Garmin Nuvi 350 since April of 2007. Works like a charm with absolutely no sliding, and it's fantastic for security concerns. I hear that thieves have now advanced from looking for GPS suction cup mounts to looking for the marks left on the windshield by GPS suction cup mounts. Buy this and keep your GPS safe and your car windows intact. It's been worth every penny that I paid for it. |
Garmin Dash Friction Mount | | Review Date: December 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: D. Phelps, Oregon | | When I recieved my order, I placed it on the dash of my RV. The angle of the dash is at about 30 degrees. The friction pad works flawlessly, but I had to wipe down the dashboard to remove any wax or dust prior to setting the pad. Once this is done, you can touch the screen, move the GPS device around or reposition it, and trust it will stay put. Overall a good product and within the guidelines of states restricting window mount devices. The top is sort of like a sand bag creating a little weight, while the bottom has a substantial amount of non skid dots that will not allow the pad to "scoot" while riding on the dash. |
Thwarts thieves! | | Review Date: December 28, 2008 | | Reviewer: cpc medical coder, | Did you know that even if you remove your Garmin AND the windshield mount thieves may still break into your vehicle looking for your portable GPS? Do you know why? That convenient little windshield mount leaves a telltale suction cup mark on the windshield and the crooks know what to look for. They figure there is a good chance you hid that GPS in the vehicle and in a matter of seconds it is theirs, after all there's only a few places to hide something in there. Not only are you out that expensive little GPS but the thief now has your address and maybe the addresses of your friends and family. Like to add your own personal pictures to that GPS? Now he knows what your kids look like. And he also knows the chances are excellent you also own many other expensive electronic gadgets, all just waiting for him to pick up. Even if you password protect that GPS so a thief can't access it do you really want to go through the hassle and expense of filing an insurance claim, buying a new GPS and programing it? This dashboard mount is the simple and inexpensive solution. Stash it under the seat before you get out of the vehicle and take your Garmin with you, just in case 'cause you never know who's watching. And one more suggestion...as you arrive at your destination drop this thing onto the seat beside you so the "glow" of it isn't visible to all around you. And keep your doors locked. You can call me paranoid but safe... :) |
Another satisfied customer | | Review Date: October 28, 2007 | | Reviewer: Just Another Shopper, | | Add me to the list of customers pleased with this product. I previously used the suction-cup mount for my nuvi, but that has been shelved in favor of this friction device. I often move my nuvi between cars, and this makes it a very easy process. There is enough grip in the mount to prevent sliding and enough to allow adequate finger pressure on the touch screen to make selections without disrupting the position of the gps. You can swivel the stem 360 degrees, and even remove the stem for easier packing, if you are traveler like me who uses the nuvi in different rental cars. |
Much Cheaper at another Amazon page | | Review Date: December 14, 2009 | | Reviewer: Vermonter, South Burlington, Vermont USA | It is very strange, but this same item without the excessive packaging is available for 24.99 on another amazon page. Check out electronics/accessories and supplies/mounts. |
Works Beautifully | | Review Date: July 3, 2007 | | Reviewer: Samuel Ford, | After the Florida sun managed to destroy the rubber suction cup mount the Garmin came with, I needed a better mount that wouldn't damage the dashboard but would hold the device securely. The Garmin site and the online stores were very confusing about which mounts work with which models, but I took a gamble and picked one that appeared to be correct. This mount fits the StreetPilot C550 perfectly and does not move at all during normal or aggressive driving conditions. |
NUVI Friction Mount | | Review Date: August 16, 2007 | | Reviewer: R. Latreille, | I've owned the NUVI Friction Mount for about a month and used it frequently. The mount is very handy in that it molds itself to any curved surface and stays in place all day long. The "unlock" mode allows you to position the GPS in an almost endless choice of positions for versatility. Just one caution which will not affect many people. If you travel in really rough conditions such as off-road or rough dirt roads, the vibration from the rough road will force the mount to move and will require you to reposition it from time to time. However, in the normal course of travel through towns, cities, and the open highway, the mount stays firmly in place. |
Just works. Simple, effective, and great value. | | Review Date: September 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: J. C. Petts, Seattle, WA USA | This Just Works. It is a simple idea implemented well. Highly recommended, especially for those of you who want to use your GPS in more than one vehicle. Great item. |
Good solution | | Review Date: September 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: Ryszard Muller, NJ USA | This is a perfect solution for an easy and trouble-free Garmin mount on the dashboard. Advantages: - Stays in place in most cases for the regular driving - Solid, functional design - Can be used in the states where suction cups on the windshield are prohibited (CA) - Easy theft protection: you can take the unit with you and conceal the mount on the floor without disconnecting it - Ideal solution for the rental car Disadvantages - Size and weight. If this is your permanent mount solution pls check if you have enough space on your dashboard for the mount. It is much bigger, than you may think looking at the pictures. - Forget about off-road driving, light dirt road may be enough for the mount to slide. |
Whoa, it works! | | Review Date: September 29, 2007 | | Reviewer: Ken P. Copen, Alameda, CA USA | Even after all the positive reviews for the friction mount, I was highly skeptical that it would stay on the dash of our Jeep Liberty. We had gone through two window mounts already, same as everyone else, the window mount is almost impossible to take off and put in another car as we like to do on occassion, and it leaves a nice ring of rubber behind. Also after you take it off and on a few times it becomes nearly useless. So we decided to give the friction mount a try. The dash on our Jeep Liberty is not a real uniform area, the air vents jut up into the dash and the window vents are also right where you would put the mount so i felt like there wouldn't be a great surface for it to "grab" onto, but there is a decent little area where it could settle on. So I put it on and attached our Nuvi. At first glance I was like "no way that thing is staying on there in a sharp turn." So I took the Jeep into an empty parking lot at night and proceeded to do a variety of very sharp turns in both directions. The mount didn't even move. Honestly it's almost like magic. Cool device and nice and easy to hide and move between cars. |
I was skeptical...Great item! | | Review Date: October 3, 2007 | | Reviewer: J. CLEAVER, SE PA | | I have to admit I was skeptical @ first but this item is everything it claimed to be. Sits on dash and stays securely in place. Would recommend this item to others. |
Review of Garmin Portable Friction Mount | | Review Date: October 6, 2007 | | Reviewer: Stephen Fung, | | Excellent product. Bought for use with my Garmin Nuvi 370 in San Francisco. Doesn't slide around the top of the dash at all. It is useful in California where it is illegal to mount objects to the windscreen. It doesn't leave marks on the window like window mounts do, which is good because such marks are telltale indicators to thieves that there might be a GPS unit inside the car that's worth stealing. (There have been brazen reports of daytime thefts of GPS units from locked cars, including an incident outside the mayor's office.) This friction mount is bigger than I thought it would be. My pocket sized Nuvi looks small while mounted on it. However, I drive a minivan that has plenty of room to hide it on the floor or inside a storage compartment. That might not be the case if you drive a two-seater convertible. |
Works great! | | Review Date: October 21, 2007 | | Reviewer: J. Simpson, San Diego, CA | This friction mount works perfectly. I have used it for several weeks now and it has worked flawlessly. My Nuvi releases quickly and I can either leave the mount on the dash or set it on the floor to "hide it." Either way, this mount is much less obvious to someone walking by than the suction mount (no suction rings left on the window). And I just moved to California, where it is illegal to have items suctioned to your window... |
Better Than Suction Mount | | Review Date: October 27, 2007 | | Reviewer: M. Reid, Louisville, KY | | My older Garmin 2610 is so bulky that it must be used with the friction mount, which I've grown to love over the years, since it places the unit closer to me, and it allows for quick and easy removal and storage. The mount stays in place, even during spirited driving. Don't be squeamish attaching the mount to the unit - it takes considerable force. |
Great alternative to those wimpy suction cup mounts | | Review Date: December 16, 2007 | | Reviewer: Porgy Tirebiter, Santa Fe, NM USA | I'm using this with a Garmin Nuvi and am very happy with it. Moving it back and forth between our family cars is a breeze, and it clings to odd surfaces with no problems (we drive a Toyota Prius and a Honda Fit). Those suction cup mounts are totally useless on our cars -- they hold for about 20 minutes then fall off. And I don't want to glue anything down permanently. So this is the ideal solution. |
Friction Mount ROCKS | | Review Date: December 18, 2007 | | Reviewer: NikkoleK, Ohio USA | | This is by far the best mount I've ever seen (and used) for my GPS. I have a Garmin 200W and it works great with it. Super easy to set up just place it on your dash and go! Same for when you want to take it down or move it.It is basically a 'heavy' bean bag-like base with some kind of suede like bottom that really grips. I HATE suction cup mounts. Half the time I can't get them to work or if stuck to the window they leave a stupid ring on the glass that never seems to totally go away. And using a permanent sticker is out of the question for me! This mount solves all that. It is VERY stable. Doesn't move around tight corners or fast stops. If I had one issue with it, is that the base is a bit large and so maybe in a smaller car you might have problems with placement. But I'm guessing it really will be fine. If you are looking for a mount for your GPS, this is one I would strongly recommend. |
no point in looking any further.. | | Review Date: December 28, 2007 | | Reviewer: Gavin Hadley, Avon, IN USA | | Holding a GPS unit in place isn't rocket science but whoever designed this device got it 100% right. It's reasonably priced and does exactly what I wanted it to. Buy with confidence. |
Great product! | | Review Date: December 29, 2007 | | Reviewer: M. Wright, TEXAS | | I love this Garmin mount. It is easy to use, stays put on the dashboard and positions my Nuvi where it is easy to see without being distracting. A little big to stick in my briefcase for travel, but an excellent choice for use in my regular vehicle. It is easy to stick in the console when stowing the GPS so that a thief doesn't see the windshield mount and assume that the GPS is in the console or glove compartment. Just stowing the GPS isn't enough--the mount has to be hidden, too, or a thief may break in to your vehicle just to see if the GPS/radar detector/other windshield mounted equipment is inside. |
Works great, even through the mountains | | Review Date: February 1, 2008 | | Reviewer: Alan Somers, McKinney, TX USA | | I bought this mount to use with my new Nuvi 260 on a recent trip to northern West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania. It held the Nuvi in place quite nicely on the dash of our rented Malibu through the mountains in the area and on the hilly streets of Pittsburgh, PA. |
Garmin Portable friction dashboard mount for Nuvi series. | | Review Date: May 3, 2008 | | Reviewer: Sonia Overton, | This item does very well even on gravel roads where the vibration would be the ultimate test for stability. |
Perfect Solution! | | Review Date: May 7, 2008 | | Reviewer: Ethel Escoffier, NYC | I had the suction cup mount for my StreetPilot. It was a hazard to drive with, constantly falling off the windshield. It's just a stupid design. So I purchased this mount - it is great. It stays put, you slide the mount in, position it and lock it in place - it's easy to remove the mount for storage. I don't know why I waited so long but if you have your Garmin crashing on your head while you drive, buy this mount! |
Garmin Mount vs. Bracketron Mat | | Review Date: July 2, 2008 | | Reviewer: Majed T. Almashhadi, Boston, MA | Before finding this product, using Nuvi always was a drag as I usually took the suction cup off the windshield when not in use (to divert attention), or it fell off for some reason, or it left marks on the windshield. Plus I hated having to aim for a spot on the windshield just to find that its blocking my view, and having to re-stick this thing cup again. After getting this product, using my Nuvi is a snap, I just throw the mat ANYWHERE on the dashboard and the Nuvi is good to go. Most importantly, it really sticks well, and I NEVER had my Nuvi slide from its place (keep in mind that I'm an aggressive driver, and I sometimes take very sharp quick turns) Things to note if you are comparing this item to the Bracketron mat. I think this product is better than its rival (Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash Pad) which I also own, for the following reasons 1. its lighter 2. its significantly smaller and occupies less area on the dashboard 3. the nuvi mounting hook is already there (with the Bracketron mat you have to stick your suction cup to the mat) which might fall off sometimes, less flexible, and you have to live with trying to stick and un-stick the damn cup to the mat every time you take it out of place. (Keep in mind this product is more expensive than the other mat since it includes the hook, with the other mat you have to provide your own hook, or you can't use it 4. it has an octopus shape (4 independent sides) which is very flexible and sticks really well on tilted or uneven surfaces, unlike the other mat, which is round and inflexible. 5. the pre-attached hook, provide so much more flexibility in adjusting the view of your nuvi, It just moves in every direction you can think of. it also rotate 360 degrees once you slide the un-locking button, which gives even more flexibility. Although its double the price of the other mat, I believe its well worth it, and I will gladly buy an additional one to keep as spare, thats how much I like it. |
Friction Mount is really a beanbag | | Review Date: July 10, 2008 | | Reviewer: K. Hecker, Fullerton, California USA | I bought the Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for my nuvi 680. Since it's illegal in California to use the included (with the nuvi) suction cup mount, something like this is needed. In any case you're going to have a power cord running down the dash, but what can you do? The mount worked well, but my nuvi did plummet to the floor a couple times. Maybe the "friction" part of the mount refers to if you have a fuzzy dashboard covering. I fashioned a small hook out of a piece of thin metal (you could probably use a large paper clip), and used one of the screws on the mount to hold it. That is not visible, and hooks into a defroster vent, keeping the mount from sliding. I've had no problems since, and the mount makes the Garmin totally portable. |
Easy Mount for Garmin Nuvi 760 | | Review Date: July 12, 2008 | | Reviewer: M. Dorin, | | I purchased this dashboard friction mount for a Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS since California does not allow GPS devices to be mounted on the windows. This is a friction device that sits on your dashboard basically anywhere you put it. It doesn't block your vision and can be easily seen from most positions in my automobile. It does not harm your dashboard or affect it in any way, and it does not move from the position in which it is placed during normal freeway driving (I did not try high-speed turns, since I don't normally drive that way). I am quite satisfied that it is the smartest way to mount a GPS receiver in an automobile and the price is reasonable for the convenience and functionality it affords. This is an excellent design, which makes for a convenient way to use a GPS in California, or if you don't want to use adhesives on your windows or dashboard. |
Garmin Friction dashboard mount Nuvi - portable | | Review Date: August 4, 2008 | | Reviewer: D. D. Tharp, Alabama | Purchased so we can take the Nuvi off the dash and lay it on the floorboard. works great for the exact purpose. In theory it is not able to slide off the dashboard. Unless of course you clean your dashboard and use 303 protectant and turn the corner at a faster than normal speed. won't stay on the dash then. Luckily my wife caught it. overall, great product and provides us w/ some ability to remove the nuvi from prying eyes. we even locked in the glove once. recommend for those who don't want to leave their pricely GPS stuck the windshield. |
Perfect for multiple cars / rental cars / state laws | | Review Date: August 30, 2008 | | Reviewer: C. Dillman, North Yarmouth, Maine USA | | Perfect for multiple cars and states with laws against windshield attachments such as California (that includes the suction cup mount). Does not slide around and very easy to drop under the seat when jumping out to get gas etc.. |
Fulfills all expectations | | Review Date: September 23, 2008 | | Reviewer: Stuart Korsen, Lake Arrowhead, CA USA | | I did purchase this product after reviewing what others had stated about their satisfaction. In summary: 1) It is convenient 2) It stays where you place it on the dashboard. I travel up & down a mountain road with extreme curves in places. The speeds that I attain do not effect the placement of the holder and the attached GPS [does not move]. 3) You can locate the holder anywhere on the dashboard. This eliminates a possible visual hinderance and nighttime glares off of the windshield. 4) Stows away easily. Just place on the passenger side floor or anywhere that is convenient. 5) Angle adjustment, just of the GPS, is extremely easy and secure in it's final placement. Bottomline: I WOULD BUY ANOTHER, IF I EVER MISPLACED THE ONE I HAD BOUGHT. |
Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Series | | Review Date: March 26, 2009 | | Reviewer: W. E. McGowan, Binghamton, NY USA | | This item exceeds all of my expectations. I was fearful that it would slide around when I was cornering or when I had to stop abruptly. Amazingly, it stays anchored as if it were glued to the dashboard. It allows the Garmin to be easily adjusted and best of all it can be removed by just picking it up. I can stash my Garmin in the trunk and leave no tell-tale signs that there is a GPS on board. It requires no permanently mounted fixtures and leaves no suction-cup imprints. It's a great and simple solution at a reasonable price. (It works fine with my 755 series also). |
Best Solution for Dash Mount | | Review Date: November 29, 2009 | | Reviewer: B. Tidwell, Salinas, CA | | So easy to use, works perfectly, does not slip off dash...ever. Quick and easy to stash when leaving vehicle and put right back when you get back into vehicle. A bit bulky for long term storage no cases available for mount and GPS unit. I use a simple black insulated lunch bag ($4.99 at Target), it works perfectly! I just stuff the whole unit, GPS and mount still attached in the bag-cord too and close the velcro flap..DONE! Because it is insulated it protects it from overheating in car as well as the padding in bag protects it from bumps and bruises. |
Garmin friction mount for c530 with arm | | Review Date: April 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: Smartshopper, New York | | Much better than windshield suction cup mount which mounts the C530 out of reach. Plop it on your dash and it stays in position |
Doubts dispelled | | Review Date: May 25, 2007 | | Reviewer: L. Gomes, California, USA | | I didn't actually think this would grip but it works extremely well. Very happy with this purchase, now have to get on for my wife. |
Much better then suction mount | | Review Date: July 3, 2007 | | Reviewer: Robert Ahern, USA | | I have used the suction mount and after time it nolonger stays stuck to the windshield. This product is not heavy but it stays put on the dash. I tried to get it at Walmart (listed on the Garmin site) but I could never find it. I ordered it at Amazon and it was delivered in a couple of days! |
I Love This Mount! | | Review Date: July 4, 2007 | | Reviewer: Kacee B., Washington, D.C., USA | | I really Love this mount!! Not only is it quick and simple to set up, but it actually works, and well I might add. It will fit on practically any dash without movement while driving, and stores nicely in the bottom of the optional Garmin gps bag. |
Perfect! | | Review Date: July 6, 2007 | | Reviewer: Teliza, New Jersey | | I bought this after reading all the great reviews and I concur. After using the suction cup mount for a week, it no longer stuck, so I started looking for an alternative. This simple mount plonks on the dash of all of our cars, an ancient BMW, an old suburban and a newish subaru: three different shaped and angled dashboards and this mount sits tight right where I put it. Great job, Garmin! |
Exactly what I wanted for my nuvi 660 | | Review Date: July 10, 2007 | | Reviewer: The Grand Duke, Phoenix, AZ USA | I bought a 2007 Durango Limited and it has a long sloping windshield. There was no way I could mount the Garmin there so I bought the friction mount hoping it would do the trick. Voila!! This mount works perfectly on the Durango's dash. The mount molds to the contours of the dash and so far there has been no slipping or sliding. In my opinion it is well worth the cost. |
Garmin Portable Friction Mount for Nuvi | | Review Date: July 15, 2007 | | Reviewer: P. Thompson, Massachusetts | | Excellent product in all ways except connecting the "ball joint" to the back of the GPS unit is difficult to the point of possibly damaging the GPS if not very careful. |
This thing is really good! | | Review Date: July 21, 2007 | | Reviewer: R. Stark, Little Rock, AR | I was pleasantly surprised by the Garmin Friction Mount. IT DOES NOT SLIP! I got the friction mount because the windshield suction cup mount used on my Ford Focus puts the Nuvi 350 at an uncomfortable distance to reach from either the driver or passenger seat. I've used the friction mount on the Focus's relatively sloped dash for about 1,000 miles, including steep curvy mountain roads where stuff on the back seat slid around and the Garmin did not move. Like other reviewers have said the friction mount makes it easier to hide the device on the front floorboards when stopped and out of the car for a moment and makes it easier to move it from car to car. If you are going to spring for the GPS device in the first place, do yourself a favor and get one of these.

Garmin Friction Mount | | Review Date: July 27, 2007 | | Reviewer: James W. Tweeddale, | | This friction mount is perfect. It holds the GPS firmly, yet can easily be repositioned to please your "copilot". I have used it on bumpy roads, around tight turns, in hurried stops and it simply stays put. An amazing little device easily connected to the Garmin GPS. Another very nice aspect of this mount is that you can easily reduce screen glare by slightly repositioning the mount when you are driving in bright sunlight. |
Worth every Penny | | Review Date: July 29, 2007 | | Reviewer: A. Wallis, | | My wife and I were tired of our suction cup mount falling off the window ALL THE TIME. The suction cup also left a black reside on our window that we got tired of cleaning. This friction mont does a GREAT job. It stays steady; regardless of our driving style. I also think the Nuvi is much easier to reach now that it is about a foot closer to the driver. i definitely would by this product again...of course Amazon's free shipping got the product to us faster than expected. |
Worked as intended | | Review Date: August 1, 2007 | | Reviewer: Dres Bon, folsom, ca usa | | I don't have any problem since I bought this. My C530 is already attached to this all the time. It is very convinient to remove when I want to hide my garmin. It doesn't move a bit even on hard braking and sharp turn with my Honda CRV. |
Love it. | | Review Date: August 1, 2007 | | Reviewer: Mary D. Ose, | | I can place the item closer to me and it doesn't move no matter how fast I take a turn or slam on the brakes. Since I have only one good eye and that eye has floaties all over the friggin place I need the Garmin close so I can spot the current location at the precise moment when the floaties move to where I get a clear view. It's a great product. |
Slick for use in vans | | Review Date: August 2, 2007 | | Reviewer: Befuddled, Dallas | | Well made and extremely handy. The suction mount on a long van windshield puts the NUVI so far away you need binoculars to see it. This allows me to put it right where I want it and it stays put. During a road trip I also discovered how handy this is for the disappearing GPS. On a stop just toss it on the floor. No GPS, no telltail suction mount, no temptation for the bad guys. Slick. |
Great for vans, best mount ever | | Review Date: August 2, 2007 | | Reviewer: S. Hirsch, Plano, Tx USA | This thing was the main reason why I went with Garmin. Not the navi itself but the mount. Friend of mine had his for years using a 27xx and loves it. I am using mine with a Nuvi 350. It is especially great for minivans with the windshield out of reach unless you want to place the suction mount way up in your line of sight to block the view on the street. This thing sits like a rock. Even on curved dash boards. Maybe unless you drive like a formula 1 pilot. And you can hide it within seconds and also use it in other cars. I just hope Garmin continues this mount for future navigation systems. Very simple solution but works great. |
Great Product | | Review Date: August 3, 2007 | | Reviewer: S. Kobak, Guilford, CT | | This is a great product. It never slips on the dashboard no matter how hard I stop or corner. The suction cup mount that Garmin provided with my Nuvi 350 kept falling off the windshield. Not good for a $500 GPS. This is a good solution to that problem. Garmin should be providing this with their products in place of the poorly designed suction mount. |
Have the StreetPilot I3? You NEED This! | | Review Date: August 8, 2007 | | Reviewer: Meredith Davis, Florida | | The Garmin StreetPilot is an amazing driving tool, and I don't know what I ever did without it! I have been living in Central Florida for 2 years and do not know my way around at all. I am originally a New Yorker and felt stressed driving anywhere in Florida because I would always get lost so I never left the house! I can go anywhere now and with confidence BUT... the screen is so small on my Garmin that I have trouble seeing the display with the included windshield suction cup mount plus the fact with the hot Florida sun it falls off on its own! I like to see the display because it shows the distance before the next turn and I like that. I drive a Lexus RX300 and was NOT going to let somebody install a permanent mounting system NO WAY JOSE! I did not want to screw up my beautiful interior with any permanent structure! So I hunted the internet for a solution! This Friction mount is the best! It holds my Garmin I3 perfectly and allows me to place it as close as I need it on my dash! Does it slide around? NOPE! I have made some hairy turns and have not made it budge yet! Its bean bags at the bottom with rubber underneath and the spot where the Garmin is placed is a ball joint like on the windshield mount. You just remove your Garmin off the windshield mount ball and place it on the new Friction ball. You can swivel your Garmin so that you can see it the way you want. When I leave the car I just grab the whole unit, bean bag and all and place it in my carry bag. I don't have to release it like with the windshield mount. For the ladies, if you have a decent sized purse/pocketbook (it fits in mine and I don't use the huge tote type bags) the entire thing should fit. The little sides of the bean bags fold over so it's pretty flexible. BUY THIS, it's the only thing other than rechargeable batteries and a charger that you would need to buy for your Garmin. |
Not pretty, but does the job | | Review Date: August 9, 2007 | | Reviewer: M. Yamamoto, Glen Allen, Virginia United States | | The friction mount works like a charm on flat, angled and shaped surfaces. I've tried it in three different vehicles and it is rock solid. It's a bit hefty if you're transporting it on a plane to use in a rental car, but it never falls off like the suction mounts. Worth getting |
MY NUVI IS FINALLY SAFE AND SECURE! | | Review Date: August 12, 2007 | | Reviewer: J. Young, | With almost 100 reviews and most of them 5 stars, its a sure bet that the friction mount is a great product. I purchased this product almost two months ago and like most people, I have had no complaints. You can place this mount anywhere on the dash and it will stay put. My only regret is that I did not discover this product sooner. When I was using the suction mount that came with the Nuvi 350, it fell off my car's windsheild twice. Thankfully, it did not cause an accident and does not appear to have caused any damage to the Nuvi. |
garmin nuvii mount | | Review Date: August 17, 2007 | | Reviewer: JarvisO, Wauna, WA USA | | I recommend this item if you have several vehicles and/or use rental cars. It can be placed anywhere on the dash and is secure (won't slide around). |
A "must-have" item | | Review Date: August 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: Kenneth Gehan, | | This portable mount is a really neat addition to the GPS. It eliminates the need to use the windshield suction cup, and makes using the GPS a lot easier, since you can place it anywhere on your dashboard or console that is the most convenient for you. Highly recommended. |
Stable as a rock | | Review Date: August 29, 2007 | | Reviewer: Tastemaster, New York, NY USA | | This mount has an uncanny ability to stay in place when simply placed on a dsahboard. A simple solution that really works. |
If you have a Nuvi, buy this friction mount! | | Review Date: August 30, 2007 | | Reviewer: K. Szabo, Woodland Hills, CA | | If you own a Nuvi, this is the best mount. I have a Nuvi 660. Don't waste time with the suction cup mount, buy this one. It works perfectly. Very stable, does not tip or slide, even when cornering hard. Very well designed. This is the perfect solution if you use your portable GPS in multiple vehicles. Garmin should include this mount with all Nuvis, but maybe this is a way to get more money out of our pockets. This mount is all you need if you have a Nuvi. Just snap the cradle off the ball of your old mount, and snap it onto the ball of the friction mount. I am very satisified with this product. |
A must have for your nav system | | Review Date: August 31, 2007 | | Reviewer: Bob M, New York, NY United States | | I bought this at the same time I bought my Garmin Nuvi 360. Works beautifully together. It keeps my system in place on my dashbord, and you don't have any tell-tale signs that you even have a nav system in your car. It fits in my center console when I'm not using it. If you have a portable nav system, you must get this product! |
Garmin Friction Mount | | Review Date: September 5, 2007 | | Reviewer: sroc, Rochester, NY | | We just returned from a 6,000 mile trip around the US. We used this mount the whole way. Through hair pin turns in several National Parks and short stops in major cities the mount never budged a centimeter. We were able to position it on the dash so that it didn't obstruct our view of the road at all. As a bonus the person in the passenger seat could grab the GPS and reprogram it or check the road ahead. I would definitely recommend this mount. |
It really works! | | Review Date: September 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: Bonnie Walker, | | I was a little skeptical of whether I wanted to trust an expensive GPS unit secured only to this mount and sitting on the dash during the sometimes abrupt starts and stops when going through heavy traffic but I decided to try it anyways. It really works and holds the unit steady, It also makes it very easy to quickly move the unit from one vehicle to another. I love it!!! |
Friction Mount | | Review Date: October 1, 2007 | | Reviewer: Mike, Chicago | | Very happy with the friction mount for our Zumo. Easy to use as stated and now no worries about the suction cup breaking and damaging our Zumo. |
Garmin Friction Mount | | Review Date: October 6, 2007 | | Reviewer: Joseph G. Dinicola, Torrance, CA USA | My Garmin GPS came with a pad that you glue to the dashboard. It was supposed to have a glue backing that held fast. After two days the Garmin fell off the pad. I tried again with the same results. The pad that supposedly couldn't be removed, peeled off easily. A friend told me about the friction mount. It is great. I have been using it several weeks and the GPS does not move at all. You just place the friction mount on the dashboard and there it stays. I recommend to my friends that they buy a Garmin GPS with the friction mount. You'll love it. Joe |
Not one complaint | | Review Date: October 24, 2007 | | Reviewer: boring.is.the.new.awesome, San Diego, CA | I bought a Garmin street pilot and was seriously discouraged by the fact that 1) I would have to put a permanent sticker on my dashboard for the dashmount (because I'm in CA and can't use the windshield) and then 2) I was unable to even attach the sticker because it would not stick to my dashboard. This product is perfect. It does not slip, even with erratic driving, and I would unconditionally recommend it to anyone with a Street Pilot that cannot or does not want to mount it to the windshield or the dash. |
Love it! | | Review Date: October 24, 2007 | | Reviewer: Grammy, | | Love it, love it, love it! It sits on my dash (2005 Honda Accord) & has never moved an inch!!! Couldn't have asked for a better product! |
the best !! | | Review Date: October 25, 2007 | | Reviewer: jr, new jersey | | i used the mount that came with garmin nuvi and it kept falling off my dashboard. after reading reviews i decided on this mount and it NEVER fell again! it really works and i'm so happy i bought it. now i can totally enjoy my garmin |
Better Angle | | Review Date: October 27, 2007 | | Reviewer: D. Castillo, Nevada , USA | | I purchased this bean bag dashboard mount after reading about how just the suction cup, left on my windshield, can attract thieves to break into my car. Its works just fine and i like the angle much better from the bean bag mount! |
Fantastic Dash Mount | | Review Date: November 12, 2007 | | Reviewer: D. Sheppard, Rockwall, TX | I actually started to use the permanent dash mount that came with my Garmin Nuvi 350, when the window mount stopped sticking, and started falling off every 10-15 minutes. I am so glad that I checked Amazon for other options and found this device. This device works so great that it's hard to explain. I can only say that if you use the window mount it will fail, and when it does, this is the best solution out there. Garmin should have included this with the original purchase. Knowing how great it works I would have paid the extra $30 up front. |
Garmin 'bean bag dash mount' | | Review Date: November 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: H. Taylor, Baltimore | | Bought it for my daughter to use with the Garmin c550 that I had just bought her. She loves it. We live in an area that has had many thefts of navigation systems from the car. Police have advised not only to remove GPS system when leaving the car, but to remove windshield based mount as well. They even suggest that you wipe off the mark the suction cup leaves on the window as the thieves are aware of that the suction cup mark means that a GPS system is in the car. The portable Friction Mount makes life a lot easier. And Amozon's price was $20.00 less then Best Buy. |
convienient | | Review Date: November 29, 2007 | | Reviewer: B. Min, Austin, TX United States | I bought this to replace the melted garmin mount to windshield. I'm very happy now. Pros: 1. Portability 2. Stability 3. No worry about hot temperature which could make the rubber monut stuck with windshield. Cons: 1. a little bit bulky |
Love it | | Review Date: December 26, 2007 | | Reviewer: S. Ritter, PA, USA | | It works great with my Nuvi 250W! I replaced the windshield mount that came with my Nuvi with this. The windshield mount kept falling off the windshield. This friction mount doesn't slide at all and I like the lock feature that keeps the angle I have chosen to view my Nuvi. It's so portable! Just remove it from the dash and put it out of sight and no one is tempted to break into your car looking for your GPS. Two thumbs up!! Fast shipping with free super saver shipping...gotta love it. |
Definitely worth it | | Review Date: December 27, 2007 | | Reviewer: islandslacker, Charlotte, NC | I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 360 a couple months ago and wanted an option that did not involve mounting the device on my windshield. This Friction Mount works well and makes it super easy to move the GPS to multiple vehicles without fooling around with suction cups. Depending on how big your dashboard is, I would definitely recommend getting this mount. In 3 months of use, the mount has never failed, keeping the GPS right where I want it. It also makes it easy when you have a passenger - you can easily transfer the unit and the mount to the other side of the dashboard so they can reach it and "navigate" while you concentrate on driving. |
Garmin Portable Friction Mount | | Review Date: December 27, 2007 | | Reviewer: Charles Sidell, Weeki Wachee, FL | | When I recieved this mount with my Garmin for Christmas I told my wife that it wouldn't work in my car because my dash is small, slanted and slick. I was pleasantly surprised to find it works great in my Mercedes. I highly recommend this portable friction mount for the Garmin, it's totally amazing. |
Definitely a good buy | | Review Date: December 29, 2007 | | Reviewer: Big Dan, Los Alamitos, CA USA | | Living in California, the window mount is illegal, but even so, I think this is the better option. Stays fast on the dash, and is easy to stow under the seat to hide from prying eyes. Personally, I think the window mounts are tacky anyway (no pun intended). |
Firm Hold on the Dash | | Review Date: January 2, 2008 | | Reviewer: D. Hackett, Pacific Northwest, USA | | I bought this product from Amazon because it seemed like a good way to easily move my Nuvi 360 between different vehicles. If you have a highly portable GPS unit, the mount should match. No complaints. After an 18 hour road trip (round trip) over bumpy and curvey state highways, the friction mount stayed firmly affixed to the dash. |
It works | | Review Date: January 7, 2008 | | Reviewer: P. Metzke, Montgomery, IL USA | | I used the suction cup mount that came with my Garmin Nuvi 350 for a few weeks. I use it between 2 cars so I move it often. I also live near Chicago, so it gets cold in the winter. The suction cup mount seems hard to use in the winter. This beanbag type is awesome. I have not had it fall off my dash yet. I also like the fact that when I park somewhere, I place the whole bean bag thing on the floor of the car, out of sight. I highly recommend this to anyone that has or buys a Nuvi. |
Easy to use! On and off dash quickly! | | Review Date: February 1, 2008 | | Reviewer: MacInTX, TX | This item is great. After having the windshield suction cup fall off the windshield during a trip, I was looking for an alternative. This sits on your dash and doesn't slide around. Yet it is very easy to reposition. The only downside is that it is a little big to tuck into the console when not in use. |
Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount is Great | | Review Date: February 26, 2008 | | Reviewer: T. Scheiblhofer, Spring Grove, IL | | It works! My old window mount would fall off in hot temps and was a pain to switch vehicles with. This friction mount is great. It stays put, too. I was afraid it would move around alot while turning or stopping quickly. It doesn't. For storing, it fits easily under my seat. |
Garmin portable Friction Mount | | Review Date: March 24, 2008 | | Reviewer: BB & DB, Powder Springs, GA United States | | Works great. Much better than the suction cup on the windshield, which I had problems with it coming loose and falling from the window to the floor. I would have rated it 5 stars except that it is WAY overpriced for what you get. I thought it should have included the "stalk" and power adaptor at the price that Garmin charges. |
Great Product. | | Review Date: April 21, 2008 | | Reviewer: enteamazon, California | | The product does what it claims. Extremely stable at high speeds. I have had no problems whatsoever. Highly recommend this. |
It does what it should | | Review Date: April 22, 2008 | | Reviewer: Just call me Cookie, Buffalo, NY | | I didn't want a permanent mount so I opted for this one. During the course of a long trip, it does tend to shift forward ever so slightly, but it's no hardship to push it back a little once in a while. I think this is to be expected with a weighted mount, so I'm not complaining. I also don't think it's "ugly" as one reviewer said; it's meant to be utilitarian, not decorative. And it's very easy to remove my Garmin from it so I can stash it out of sight. |
The Paperweight | | Review Date: April 24, 2008 | | Reviewer: r flores, coral gables, fl USA | To me this is better than suctioning and unsuctioning something to your window. Keeps product there and easily removed when you park. I stick the whole thing w/GPS under the seat.

This stays put | | Review Date: April 25, 2008 | | Reviewer: B. James, Vermont - United States | | I can't imagine my GPS without this. It holds the GPS right on the dash - even over bumpy roads. In the center of the bean bag unit is an "L" shaped bracket that is attached to the bean bag base and is meant to hold the GPS in place. It fits my nuvi 660 perfectly. The unit also has a push-button quick release so you can take your GPS off the dash and put it somewhere safely when you're not in your vehicle. There are four "bean bags" surrounding the attachment "L", and the whole thing has a contiguous rubber bottom on it. The bean bags make it flexible and the rubber bottom keeps everything in place. Before I purchased it I wondered if it would really stay on the dash and hold the GPS securely. It does. |
The Perfect Solution for Cumbersome Window Suction Cup Mount | | Review Date: April 29, 2008 | | Reviewer: Buddy S, Baltimore, MD USA | | Using the window suction cup mount for my Garmin GPS is a pain and this Friction Dashboard Mount provides the perfect alternative. This dashboard mount keeps the GPS in place without slipping or vibrating. I have successfully used it in a 2002 VW Passat and a 2004 Honda Accord. When leaving the car, I simply move the mount to the floor and put the GPS in my pocket and take it with me. The GPS easily snaps into and out of the mount. |
dashboard mount | | Review Date: April 29, 2008 | | Reviewer: T. weide, st louis mo | | it is an excellant product well made and works great doesn't slip or slide on the dashboard very secure |
very good product | | Review Date: April 30, 2008 | | Reviewer: traveling man, Michigan | | This friction mount is very good. my dash is on quite a angle & in 1500 miles only had to push it back up in place 2 times. |
Better Than Windshield Mount | | Review Date: April 30, 2008 | | Reviewer: L. Griffin, New Jersey, USA | After 4 months of ownership, I am very happy with the Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount. I always have it on the dashboard of my Toyota Matrix. I have rented a variety of cars when I bring it with me on business trips and vacations and it doesn't move. It holds my Garmin 200w GPS in place all safe and sound. The top piece can snap off for packing in a suitcase or a carry-on bag. I like it much better than the windshield mount, which eventually looses it's suction and falls to the floor with your precious GPS, making it susceptible to damage. My only criticism is the price, even on Amazon. $25 is about $10 too much for what it is. |
Garmin Dashboard Mount | | Review Date: May 3, 2008 | | Reviewer: Blake L. Lasher, Fletcher, NC | | This item worked great.....Didn't move at all. It also worked on dash with dashmatt. |
Dashboard Pad | | Review Date: May 3, 2008 | | Reviewer: Edwin S. Urbanski, Secaucus, N. J. | | The dashboard friction pad for the garmin nuvi is a excellent accessory in terms of leaving no marks on the windshield, to tip anyone off that there is a G. P. S. system, somewhere in the car, as well as very easy to put on the dashboard in front of the steering wheel, so the friver does'mt have to take their eyes off the road at all. |
A MUST HAVE ACCESSORY | | Review Date: May 8, 2008 | | Reviewer: Webcrafter, Nathalie, Virginia United States | | We use this with our Garmin GPS system. It is perfect because our windsheild is deep and the suction cup that comes with the unit makes it difficult to reach the GPS touch screen to make any changes. This dash-mount is sturdy, does not shift when you turn corners and has an easy clip assembly for the GPS system to snap right in - A great product and must-have! |
Garmin Friction Dash Mount | | Review Date: May 18, 2008 | | Reviewer: T. Piotrowski, Clifton Park, NY United States | | This is a terrific dash mount. It does not move an inch once placed on the dash. It also makes getting the Nuvi on and off much easier than the windshield suction mount. A great accessory for a great GPS. |
Skeptical | | Review Date: July 3, 2008 | | Reviewer: S. Gottesman, | | When I purchased my friction mount to hold my Nuvi 760 gps I was not convinced that when I turned the corner the gps would slide off the dash or accross the dash. Much to my surprise when I hit a bump or turn the corner everything stayed right in place. |
I just love it | | Review Date: August 30, 2008 | | Reviewer: R. J. Ellis, Billerica, MA | | I just started to use the mount and I found it very useful. It is also very easy to hide to stop theft. I would highly recommend it. |
Garmin dashboard mount | | Review Date: August 30, 2008 | | Reviewer: A. R. Bass, MI | | Windshield mount kept coming off. Dashboard mount is simple to use, requires no installation. Simply place on dashboard and connect GPS cable. So far seems to be very securely affixed to dashboard, and, of course, is easy to remove when desired. |
Great idea that beats the hell out of suction-cup mounts | | Review Date: August 30, 2008 | | Reviewer: Mike Kroll, Galesburg, Illinois | | This is a simple and easy way to conveniently place your GPS in just the right spot on the dash without the need to drill holes or use adhesive of any kind. It also maintains the easy portability of my Garmin Nuvi portable GPS -- simply place on dash and plug in 12vdc adapter and you are in business. Why leave your GPS in plain view of potential thieves when it can quickly be stowed out-of-sight and just as quickly set-up again when you return to the vehicle? Highly recommended |
Garmin dashboard friction mount | | Review Date: August 30, 2008 | | Reviewer: Free Advice, | When I realized that my window mount was difficult to use and left marks on the window, I looked for an alternative. Garmin provides a plastic disk that can be stuck to the dashboard, but I am opposed to messing up my car by attaching any device permanently to any part of my car. When I first saw the friction mount, I didn't think it would work all that well, but I was wrong, it is excellent. It has never slipped, even under the most vigorous driving conditions. This thing is great, I highly recommend it to anyone who is reluctant to mess up their dash, or window by using things that mar the surface. |
Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for Nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550 and C580) | | Review Date: August 31, 2008 | | Reviewer: CAPT Steven D. Gnassi, USN, Washington, DC | Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for Nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550 and C580) The Garmin Portable Friction Dash Mount for the NUVI Series GPS provides a secure, stable mount for the GPS unit. This mount is not affected by temperature fluctuations that can cause the windshield suction cup mount to release. |
Awesome! | | Review Date: September 18, 2008 | | Reviewer: L. Parks, | I had my doubts about this when I first purchased it but I'm super glad I did... The Garmin Nuvi 350 comes with a windshield suction cup mount and a flat base that can be optionally stuck to your dashboard. Since I live in California and it's illegal to suction/stick anything to your windshield, I was forced use the sticky base on my dashboard. Eventually the suction cup stretched out and would no longer stick to the base when it got warm. Fast forward to vacation: I mistakenly left the suction part behind and when I got home, I had nothing and was forced to find a replacement. After scraping the base off of my dashboard (and I mean SCRAPING. The glue is a pain in the neck to get off) and going through a small bottle of goo gone, I decided I was going to look for something that didn't require me to stick anything to my dashboard. Yay for this mount! I drive a Mazda 6 Sportwagon. It literally doesn't move no matter what kind of turn I make. Granted - I'm no Mario Andretti but for us average folks, this thing does the job. It feels more substantial than it looks with 4 pretty heavy weights , 1 on each side of the connector and it has a non skid surface underneath to keep it from sliding. It's also useful because when I'm getting out of my car, I just grab it from the dashboard and stuff it underneath my passenger seat and people walking by have no idea it's in there. |
