Optima 6 volt battery | | Review Date: August 1, 2009 | | Reviewer: Ronald Clark, Jefferson City Missouri | This battery is expensive. I could have bought 3 normal!? lead acid batteries for the price that I paid for only one Optima battery. Why did I do that? I have a 1951 Ford that had a 6 volt system when it was new. I restored it and left it as original as possible. My current lead acid battery is 5 years old. It was leaking and causing corrosion on both battery terminals as well as eating the paint off my battery holder. I participate in a few old car restoration chats. Many, many of the other folks that have tried the 6 volt Optima assured me that I would not be sorry that I spent 3 times more money and I should go ahead a purchase this battery. I bit the bullet, so to speak, and ordered the battery. I had already cleaned my cables and repainted my battery holder while waiting for the battery to arrive. I strapped it in with bungie cords and turned the key. I spins the engine as fast as a 12 volt. The car had been setting long enough for some of the gasoline to evaporate out of the carburator. With the old battery, I normally squirted some starter fluid down the carb before even attempting to start it. I just wanted to see if this battery is a great as I have been told. The only thing that I can find to complain about is the size of the battery. I had to make a holddown for it. I cut up some sheet metal, bent it and welded it together in about an hour. I am now a happy owner of a battery that I think that I can trust. I'm also told that it will never leak and ruin my cables or battery holder. Ron |
NO muss No fuss | | Review Date: January 26, 2009 | | Reviewer: donald stastny, lou.,ky. | Original equipment is always great in old autos, but constantly refinishing the battery box and surrounding areas is time consuming and money consuming. Battery acid eats holes in autos and wallets. Wish i would have changed years ago. Thanks, Don chevy5101

Outstanding | | Review Date: February 3, 2009 | | Reviewer: 54 StarChief, Oklahoma | | Best price I could find anywhere on or off the net, fast shipping and the battery is a top notch Optima. It is already in my 54 and the old girl runs like a champ now with plenty of electrical power (of course that 6v alternator helps). |
optima batterys great, shipping box is not good enough | | Review Date: August 5, 2009 | | Reviewer: Mike, Dayton, OR | | the optima is very toughf allowing it to make it through transsit in a very poorly packed box. i have orderd and recived 4 optimas and 2 of them have had vissible damage to the case of the battery due to shipping. the boxes were ether broken or the battery was allowed to move around badly in the box. the batteries have all working ok but i can't help wonder if some of there life was taken in shipping. |
Great Battery | | Review Date: August 16, 2009 | | Reviewer: Scott Macdonald, | | I purchased this battery for use in an old classic car (1950 Studebaker). It fits in the original battery box at a 45 degree angle and looks great. These are the best batteries I have ever used and I have them in more than one of my vehicles. Highly recommended. |
Optima Battery | | Review Date: October 12, 2009 | | Reviewer: Nick Dunlop, | | Great Product and excellent price - was in the car as soon as it arrived .... |
Excellent | | Review Date: October 25, 2009 | | Reviewer: John B. Morgan, Greenville, Texas | I bought this 6 volt battery for my 1937 Packard and it is wonderful. Very strong starting power time after time. Worth the cost over other 6 volt batteries. John B. Morgan |
get a charge | | Review Date: January 30, 2010 | | Reviewer: C. Delaney, Sedona, AZ | | This is not my first Optima battery. Living in the world of older cars, good 6V batteries are hard to find and these are the best! One of ours is more than 5 years old and still going strong even though the car isn't used with any regularity. They are the battery of choice for vintage 6V cars. |
Good product @ great price! | | Review Date: January 30, 2010 | | Reviewer: Thomas E. Wilson, | | I knew I wanted to buy this battery for my 1930 Hupmobile and I knew I wanted to buy it as cheaply as possible. After checking many sources, Amazon.com had the best deal! |
OPTIMA,Best battery ever. | | Review Date: March 13, 2010 | | Reviewer: David A. Laninfa, | | I bought this battery to power my 1946 Dodge truck. It has more cranking amps than a wet cell battery. I installed it and i was up and running. It also weights less and can be laid on its side.Amazon had the best price for this battery. A must for any car or truck buff |
OLd Truck | | Review Date: June 5, 2010 | | Reviewer: C. Moltz, | | I have installed other Optima batteries in different vehicles. This is first 6 volt. I chose this battery because of the no leak feature, higher cranking amps and past experiences. Because the battery is only half the width of the conventional battery it is replacing, an alternate hold down device had to be designed. I only needed to use two straps to secure the battery to the original battery box in the upright position. Very easy solution. I would recommend this battery as an alternative to conventional batteries in antique trucks. |
The Dream Battery | | Review Date: June 27, 2010 | | Reviewer: A. A. Zappone, | | I have been using Optima batteries in my antique cars for probably fifteen years. The one in my '58 Cadillac has been in there so long I can't remember when I installed it. I am sure it is at least 10 years old. The 850 cca (cold cranking amps) 6 volt battery spins over my 385 cubic inch Pierce-Arrow engines like they are lawn mower engines. In the past few years, prices seem to have escalated for these batteries, they are now returning to more reasonable levels. |
great battery | | Review Date: August 23, 2010 | | Reviewer: J. wilson, lafayette ca | | I have a 356c Porsche and have replaced the standard lead acid battery many times, especially after storage.. None have been satisfactory until this one. What a difference ! My car starts quickly and is once again reliable. |
6 volt optima stating battery | | Review Date: May 1, 2010 | | Reviewer: Gary P., San Mateo, California | | I purchased this battery for an antique automobile I own that sits for long periods of time. A regular acid battery requires periodic charging if left unattended but the optima batteries I've owned in the past have performed well for me even after sitting for over six months at a time. Another feature I like about optimas are they can be mounted in ANY position without leaking. I have been very satisfied with my purchases from amazon and the delivery times have been excellent. |
5 stars for the battery itself, 0 stars for how it was shipped | | Review Date: June 4, 2010 | | Reviewer: PV, Menlo Park, CA USA | | The Optima battery is a great product. No review necessary of the product quality, it's a good brand and delivers great performance. But the way it was shipped was really surprising. There was no box, nothing. The shipping labels were just slapped on the plastic housing of the battery and the insulating caps were taped down with clear packaging tape. It arrived, but was showing obvious abrasion to the plastic, and I had to use Goop Off to get the glue from the various labels removed. This battery is destined for a classic car. It is visible when you open the hood, so looks count. I was really surprised that Amazon's supplier of these did such a PATHETICALLY POOR JOB of packaging it for shipment! |
