Optima Batteries OPT D34M D900M 12V Marine Battery BT | | Review Date: December 10, 2007 | | Reviewer: Robert<, TX USA | | Awesome battery which does not require a whole lot of charging to keep it topped off when setting during the winter months; I have a regular WalMart Deep Cycle battery for starting and it does require alot of changing. Recovery time after a full day of fishing is much less than regular deep cycle batteries. If you are a fisherman and want a battery the will deliver this is it but if you are running one of the larger trolling motors purchase the next step up in this battery. Well worth the money. |
Great Battery | | Review Date: March 3, 2008 | | Reviewer: S. Chissus, Walla Walla, WA | | What a great product. I have a strickly off-road vehicle, this battery starts it everytime. It sits for long periods of time between uses, it has never failed me. I use a winch often, have extra lighting and an on-board air system. The sealed design, is one of the features that sold me. The Optima won't let you down. |
Poor Shipping, Damaged Battery, Ok Amazon Service | | Review Date: November 19, 2008 | | Reviewer: S. Taylor, Richmond, VA | The battery arrived in what looked like the original box that it ships in from the manufacturer. There was a 61 pound battery in a box just barely big enough to slide it in and close the lid. The corrugated box was thicker than normal ones, but there was no padding of any sort inside. My battery had obviously taken a fall in transport and the box corner was damaged. The battery inside was dented. It wouldn't take a proper charge, so I tried to get an RMA from Amazon. The website says they won't take it back and to refer to the manufacturer. After some research to find the number to contact the manufacturer, I called them and was told that Amazon will indeed take it back and that it's Amazon's fault because they have been shipping these with improper packaging and Optima is trying to get them to fix it. The rep there insisted that if I call Amazon I'll get them to take it back. I called them (kind of hard to find a way to talk with a live rep as you can imagine, but they did answer quickly and were polite) and was told that they will take it back. But after a few minutes of trying to send me a packing slip, I was told that they couldn't produce one for this product and I should just ship the battery back at my cost and I'd be reimbursed shipping when it arrived. They also offered me a $10 credit to compensate for the trouble. I didn't ask. So that was nice. It cost me about $32 to ship it to them UPS ground. And when it got there I was refunded for the product on my CC that day and when I wrote them to refund me for the shipping, that was taken care of very promptly also. I buy a lot from Amazon. I love the site and the service usually. This has been my first less than good experience. I have to rate the product well because as far as I know it would have been good if undamaged. And the company rep was knowledgeable and helpful. But with all the overkill packaging Amazon usually does I was shocked that this product was so poorly handled. And the return process was irritating too. |
Great battery! | | Review Date: November 23, 2008 | | Reviewer: David L. Timmons, Mauriceville, TX USA | | I use Optima Blue Top batteries as a power backup with a pure sinewave inverter/charger. They are powerful and can be mounted at any angle since they are sealed and don't vent gas like a flooded battery. Being sealed, the posts don't corrode like regular batteries and the can be used indoors with care. When under a load they hold at 12 volts for a long time and recharge much faster than most batteries and do not heat up even when charged fast, like 70 amps. Optima could package them a little better for shipping - one was cracked at the bottom. A piece of stryofoam in the bottom of the box would have saved it from damage. Amazon did send a replacement. Thanks. |
Perfect Condition | | Review Date: May 29, 2009 | | Reviewer: Mandoo, Ohio | I was nervous about some of the past reviews complaining about the shipped to customer condition. I called customer service and asked for a note to go on my account saying I need two fresh Optimas that are in a "Clean" condition and to please make sure they have enough packing material to keep them safe in shipping. I received two fresh date stamped batteries in good condition. Optimas are a great battery that will stand up to the pounding I put them through and utilize a standard conditioning charger, they are not gel batteries. Other choices are available but I've had great luck with them (last set made it 6+ years in an Offshore boat) |
Awesome battery | | Review Date: July 17, 2008 | | Reviewer: T. Nolte, | I use these in my boat. Two large amps for stereo that I run for hours. Ive used other marine batteries and its really amazing to me how long these last. I have only had them for a year so I guess I cant comment on their longevity, but regardless Im impressed. |
Premium marine batteries you can rely on. | | Review Date: November 10, 2008 | | Reviewer: Lawrence A Team, Tucson, AZ | | I purchased two of these blue marine Optima batteries. Very solid vibration resistant construction and holds charge well during extened non use periods. Hopefully, Amazon will package batteries better to protect top portion of battery for shipping. I am very pleased with these premium batteries. |
Optima Batteries | | Review Date: March 19, 2009 | | Reviewer: David J. Bilko, | Battery was just as I expected. Batteries got slightly damaged in shipping due to poor packaging. |
Optima Battery | | Review Date: September 10, 2009 | | Reviewer: Christopher Lavigne, | | My third optima battery, all have been top performers lasting far longer than conventional deep cycle batteries. |
Best Battery for the money. | | Review Date: February 12, 2010 | | Reviewer: Billy Bearfoot, Rochelle , TX. USA | Optima Batteries 8016-103 D34M BlueTop Dual Purpose Battery I ordered this battery for my boat mainly because I have two others that has given me great service. This battery being a totally sealed unit it needs no service. Being a capacitor coil type with a acid gell it doesn't spill and can be mounted in any position. Also it is vibration resistant like no other battery of it's type. What made it more of a great thing was the price, Amazon.com came through again. Billy Bearfoot |
Great battery. Concerns about shipping or return sent me elsewhere. | | Review Date: April 26, 2010 | | Reviewer: Kevin R. Carr, Avon, OH USA | | I've heard that these are great batteries and when I decided I wanted one (actually two) I began shopping for the best price. Amazon did have the best price but after reading the horror stories about inadequate or no packaging, damage from handling, and the inability to return the batteries to Amazon I continued shopping around. I actually found them for sale at Autozone for the same price as Amazon. I did have to pay sales tax buying them at my local Autozone but the peace of mind that I didn't have to worry about bad packaging, damage from handling, or problems making a return made the minimal sales tax worth it. Sorry Amazon... I bought the batteries from Autozone. I still buy a lot from Amazon, just not batteries. |
5 STAR PACKAGING! | | Review Date: March 31, 2010 | | Reviewer: Anthony A. Variz, | | I was already very familar with the Optima battery line and impressed with their performance. I especially wanted to get away from conventional wet type batteries since the two in my Lance Camper ruined the paint on my truck when they gassed over. After I placed the order from Amazon for two Optima D34M batteries, I read the review and became quite worried they would arrive damaged (yes I know, I should have read the reviews first!). Well my worries were for nothing. UPS just dropped them off and they are perfect, in fact, the packaging was pretty much bullet proof. In addition, they arrived in only two days UPS ground! Needless to say I am very pleased. |
Great Batter | | Review Date: April 17, 2010 | | Reviewer: M. Bethel, Knox-Vegas,Tn. | | This is a great battery for the serious user. The only problem is that the battery is not as tall as a standard deep cycle battery. So your battery trays made need a spacer which you can get from Optima. |
Optima Batteries 8016-103 D34M BlueTop Dual Purpose Battery | | Review Date: July 12, 2010 | | Reviewer: Macy, | | Good battery, good price, but would not buy this product from Amazon again because packaging was poor which resulted in damage in shipping. |
Optima battery | | Review Date: March 5, 2009 | | Reviewer: William H. Strickler, Congress, AZ, USA | Optima Batteries 8006-006 34M BlueTop Starting Battery Installed this battery in my RV. I bought it because it is very difficult to check and add water in the RV. It is only half the amp hour capacity of the old battery, so that might be a problem. After I purchased it, Amazon reduced the price and I didn't like that. So it is a better buy now at the lower price. ...Bill in Arizona |
Why | | Review Date: March 14, 2008 | | Reviewer: Jackdavid, Walker, LA | | I bought a OPT D34M D900M 12V Marine Deep Cycle Batterie Blue Top in February 2008. I can't believe the price has gone up so much, playing bait & switch???????????????????????????????????????????????????? |
Poor Packaging, Great Customer Service | | Review Date: March 31, 2009 | | Reviewer: Dennis Ondek, Pearce, Arizona | Optima Batteries 8016-103 D34M BlueTop Dual Purpose Battery I read this was the ultimate Optima battery for my RV. I ordered one, but the poor packaging by Amazon resulted in a severly cracked battery, exposing the core, when it was delivered. I have read other customer reviews stating their battery was damaged when delivered. Is not transporting or delivering a cracked battery a bio hazard? Customer Service quickly and cheerfully refunded my money because there were no more in stock. Now that the stock has been replenished the battery costs more and I am not sure if it will not arrive damaged. Amazon should read the reviews and package properly. |
it is a battery | | Review Date: October 24, 2008 | | Reviewer: Stephen W. Bouchet, | | it works quite well running a cpap flow generator. lasted over three nights of use. |
Optima trolling battery | | Review Date: September 11, 2009 | | Reviewer: Justin Streeter, South Dakota | | Great battery for what I needed. Fits great in my little john boat and has plenty of power for my trolling motor. It is a little heavier than I had expected but still lighter than most batteries. Also was received very quickly as usual with stuff I have ordered from Amazon. I would recommend this battery to all avid fisherman definitly worth the money! |
Pleased | | Review Date: September 3, 2009 | | Reviewer: Doit Right, | | The service, price and product were all great. The packaging for a 65 pound battery was excellent. |
Improved packaging for Optima D34M | | Review Date: October 14, 2009 | | Reviewer: L. cuneo, San Francisco | I just received my Optima D34M (October, 2009). Maybe Optima and Amazon read the earlier reviews about poor packaging, and damaged cases, and acted on them. The battery arrived in just 5 days (I used the super saver free shipping-UPS Ground), and was safely resting on a thick white foam custom shaped cradle, all enclosed in a roomy box that was triple thick and easily up to the task. There are even 2 hand-hold cutouts on the box, to make it easier to handle with care. Good job, Amazon and Optima. A bit frustrating is that I now notice the price has dropped $20.00 just 6 days after I received my battery. Darn! Larry in SF, CA |
Great Battery, Quick Delivery, Non-existent packaging | | Review Date: April 1, 2010 | | Reviewer: bravajo, Long Island, NY | I have owned an Optima D34M on my last boat and was very happy with the battery. I decided to purchase another for my current boat and the convenience and price from Amazon was unmatched. My only, fairly major complaint is that like the other reviews my battery arrived in sub par packaging. When I say sub par, I mean nothing; No box of any kind! The battery arrived covered in UPS, address and routing stickers and was missing the standard terminal covers. It seems that you may receive this item packed in a perfect heavy cardboard, protective box OR you could receive a bare naked battery sitting on your doorstep in driving rain (like mine arrived and sat for 1/2 of a day). All that being said, it doesn't look like the battery case experienced any undue stress during shipping. The real question is; will it last a good, healthy life. |
Good product and value, bad shipping method | | Review Date: April 29, 2010 | | Reviewer: R. Marcus, Left Coast | | Battery arrived with post cover missing. It wasn't in a box and had potective covering for shipping. Therefore, battery was also scratched and dented on the exterior. I would consider buying more, but the price just went up from $168 to $189, which is too expensive now. |
Good battery, poor shipping (Jan 2010) | | Review Date: January 7, 2010 | | Reviewer: PooBear, USA | We own several Optima batteries, and they work extremely well. Five stars for this awesome battery! Too bad Amazon hasn't figured out how to ship them properly. We ordered this as (yet another) inverter battery, and it arrived in a seriously smashed paper-thin box that was roughly 50 percent covered in tape, apparently from en route repairs. Inside for packing material was about 18 feet X 1 foot strip of thin packing paper you'd cover glassware with. Wadded up it was about the size of a small cantaloupe. IOW, the packing is like what you would expect buying from some shady individual from a classified ad. Though surprisingly not cracked in half, the battery did have what appears to be an impact or load discoloration on its top. I took pics of all this madness in case I have to return it. If you are buying the battery for some essential function, such as for your car, you might want to consider purchasing something locally. All the abuse these batteries get in shipping and poor packaging can't possibly be good for them, and might degrade them mechanically inside and leave you prematurely stranded somewhere. I worried about packaging as I read these reviews before I bought, and it seemed like Amazon got their act together with shipping. Now I see its more like rolling the dice.

Great battery, horrible packaging | | Review Date: February 7, 2010 | | Reviewer: CMB, | | These batteries are great, I've owned several. They're non-spillable and last much longer than your standard lead/acid batteries. The problem is apparently Amazon does not read any of the reviews here about packaging. My batteries arrived in a thin cardboard box with one piece of brown wrapping paper wrapped around them. Needless to say both of the batteries were destroyed and now I'm at the mercy of Amazon's customer service to get new ones. Thanks Amazon! |
Still up in the air | | Review Date: July 8, 2010 | | Reviewer: K. REDER, Highland lakes, NJ | | I just recently started using this battery and I hooked it up to a car that has a lor of extras, so it drained it in the matter of 5-8 hours with a full charge I have the battery tender hooked up now so I will see tommorow how it will do I haven't been able to give it a trur test with driving the car and charging it by the alternator every day. I will write another one then. |
Interstate Optima Marine Battery | | Review Date: May 8, 2008 | | Reviewer: Howard Soltz, FLORIDA | | I PURCHASED 4 BLUE TOP MARINE OPTIMA BATTERY 17 MONTHS AGO AND THEY HAVE ALL FAILED PREMATURALY , INTERSTATE REFUSES TO WARRANTY THE BATTERIES DUE TO OVERHEATING EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE UNDER THIER 18 MONTH FREE REPLACMENT TIME PERIOD. BE AWARE THAT THERE MARINE OPTIMAS HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM |
Arrived cracked | | Review Date: March 12, 2010 | | Reviewer: T. Tilman, Fullerton, CA | The battery just arrived in flimsy packaging that was just about destroyed. I opened it up to find a cracked battery. I immediately went online to return it and it would not let me because it is a "hazardous" product. I found the phone number to call, connected to the operator and told her about the batter arriving cracked. After a few short minutes, she came back on the line and told me that they are shipping a new one immediately and to just dispose of the cracked battery properly. Hopefully, the next one will arrive in better shape. Customer service was a breeze... |
Great product but Amazon cannot deliver without damage | | Review Date: March 30, 2010 | | Reviewer: J. Van Landingham III, Austin, TX | I have used Optima batteries on my boat for several years. The batteries deliver good performance and I received 4 years of service out of the last D34M. I ordered a new Optima from Amazon as they offered the best price however the battery arrived damaged as it obviously had fallen out of the bottom of the box. The box was too big for the product, very lightweight, and only had paper wrapped around the battery for padding. UPS attempted to put the battery back in the box and added more packing tape but the battery had been damaged where it hit the ground. Amazon customer service was great in resolving the issue quickly (and at 9:00 pm) by sending me a replacement. Guess what happened to the replacement? Yep, it too was packaged the same (after I specifically asked for better packaging) and had fallen through the bottom of the box, cracking the case. UPS also retaped the box and delivered the second damaged battery. Amazon customer service was willing to send me a third battery but I asked for, and received a refund instead. Now I have two damaged batteries I need to dispose of (the batteries cannot be returned to Amazon as they are considered hazmat)..... |
Optima Battery premature failure and poor service | | Review Date: November 11, 2009 | | Reviewer: E. Quinn, | | Purchased a dual purpose Optima Blue top battery and it did fail prematurely. Customer service from optima was extremely poor. Not sure if they are worth the money with such poor customer service from Optima. |
NO Packaging protection! | | Review Date: May 28, 2010 | | Reviewer: Caveat, Denver, CO | Unbelievable! I read many of the reviews about POOR packaging, or NO packaging. I thought after all of the negative feedback from customers, the distributor and Amazon would figure out the correct way to deliver these batteries. Mine arrived UPS in about 1 week, and lucky I was present when it arrived. NO Packaging at all. The battery casing was damaged, the base was all chipped up, and the bottom looked like it had been used for a skate board! The UPS driver was also upset that there was no protective packaging since it is considered hazardous material. I ended up buying the same battery at Battery Plus (for about $38 more with tax), but at least got a battery that looks new. |
No Packaging - Arrived Scuffed and Scraped | | Review Date: March 31, 2010 | | Reviewer: ZEP729, Dearborn, MI | | I already have one of these for my trolling motor. After two years it is still in fantastic condition. Buying another one was a no-brainer. However, it arrived on my porch NAKED. No box, no tape, no wrapper, NOTHING! There are several scrapes, gouges and scuffs on the blue top. One of the black plastic caps was missing as well. Cosmetically, this battery is a wreck. I am topping off the charge as I write this but will not know how it performs until April 15th when I launch my boat. I have already provided feedback to Amazon along with a photo and fully expect them to honor their guarantee should the battery fail. I plan on updating once I know more. In the meantime, call Amazon and demand that they package this battery before shipping it out if you plan on ordering. |
