how often should you change your oil filter?
I have a 2007 Ford Mustang GT and I’m using Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil Extended Performance, so I change my oil every 15000 miles. Usually I change my filter (Mobil 1 Extended Performance) every 5000 miles. Should I change the filter every 15000 miles? Everybody is saying change your filter everytime you change your oil. Mobil 1 Extended Performance Filter it will last that long ?

Motor oil should be changed every 3 months or 3,000 miles. Some people will say that’s too often, but new oil never hurt anything. And yes, change the filter every time you change the oil, and have it lubed too.

Rule of thumb is change the filter when you change the oil.

it depends on the quality of the oil. Usually, it should say on how long will the filter will last. My car will last 2-4 months before i need an oil change. You can also check by seeing the indicator. If not sure, then ask your local mechanic :)

Most people change their filters every time they get an oil change. And even though the synthetic oil you are using may claim its good for 15,000 miles, you should really change it more often than that.
I also use Mobil 1, and I change my oil every 5,000 miles.

You should change your oil depending on how you drive your car. Full synthetic is 5000miles. With that said, your filter is changed the same time you change your oil. Now if you are racing this car down your street everyday, you must change it more frequently than 5000miles.
Now if you don’t drive this car often, every three months.

well
you can try changing your filter evey 5k
but the oil will spill out when you take the filter off..
and youll have to replace the oil anyway
change it everytime you get your oil done
and id still wouldnt do 15,000 on 1 oil change
you should cut that in half at the most..
7,500

ok some nutty answers here.just because your oil suppossedly last longer, does not mean you dont change the filter, that is the stupidest thing ive ever heard.
now that said, you do realize that right now your lower end is being eaten away by acids formed in your dirty old oil, right?i would never run any type of oil 15,000 miles, its just crazy.all engines have blowby, and this is what helps to turn the oil acidic.
you are right to change the filter often.

The 2007 Ford has a five year powertrain warranty and that includes the engine. Do not exceed the Ford recommended interval for filter and oil changes because you could be giving Ford justification to deny a warranty claim even though Mobil says you can go longer. A few dollars spent on more frequent oil and filter changes is cheap compared to having to pay out of pocket for a major engine overhaul if you have an engine problem and Ford rejects your claim. Once you’re out of warranty 15,000 miles should be fine.
Personally I don’t use extended life oils. Even though the an extended life oil may retain it’s lubricating properties it still accumulates contaminates. I’m old school and like to know I have clean oil in my engine. Oil is cheap. I use regular oil and change it every 5,000 miles or less. I don’t bathe less frequently because I use anti-bacterial soap either.

15,000? It may be O.K. if you drive 200/300 a day – all highway – in warm weather.
You can run 15,000 but, a 2007 – it’s ready to sell/trade before major repairs, (like an engine rebuild at $4000?)
Filter every time! Think about it like this. You add 5 new quarts and – by leaving the filter on it is like pouring one dirty quart back? Does that sound smart?

You should change your oil filter whenever you change your oil. I’d say every 3,000 miles for a new car and 2,000 miles for vehicles over 75,000 miles. Click below for more info.

i change my filter everytime i change my oil. if you don,t then all your doing is leaving dirty oil in your engine.and for all they cost then why not change it.
