traction control, this switch engages or disengauges it. The valet is to be able to de-power the engine, then lock the glove box so valet kids can’t scorch your tires.

How expensive are Cadillacs to maintain? Is there a big difference in maintenance costs between a Cadillac and a Buick? I have always wanted a Caddy but people say the upkeep is ridiculous.

people can slate this car for its handling but i love it long live gm

the gizmos are really expensive if they break, and the fancy shocks cost a mint, but they’re generally fairly reliable cars.
you have to consider that any luxury car will be expensive to maintain. doesn’t matter if it’s BMW, M-B, lexus or cadillac.

They gave up RWD for way too long. A real luxury car has to be either RWD or AWD, front-drivers and powerful engines do NOT mix (torque steer, etc.)

as member of cadillac owner club… I must say, if a car is in good condition with service history from good owner it it a nice car to drive and maintain. Problem with Caddy Seville SLS/STS is some units are too complicated, Northstar engine has problem with oil consumption and generally if any problem under hood it is expensive because is not space for hands, special tool are requied etc. Want good Caddy ? Go for Brougham with 5.7 Corvette engine. Simple, smooth, durable and quiet car.

Cadillac is quite a bit more expensive, because Buick’s share alot more parts with the common Chevy. Cadillac’s are harder to work on as well.

the STS is a g body, which is shared w/ buick Park avenue and riviera.
oldsmobiletw on January 22, 2010 at 11:29 am
The 1st gen aurora shares more with the STS then any other car including the the buicks including and devilles

My bro has a 2000 STS with 87 – 88k miles.
The engine burns oil. He has to add 3 quarts every 3 months.
It has a lot of electronic gremlins. The fuel gauge always reads full. The front passenger cant lower his electric window. Both rear windows broke & cant be controled electronically. We have to shut them by hand and they slide open from road vibrations after a short while.
The sunroof leaks and the trunk leaks from wear the rear spoiler is attatched.

The right side wing mirror moves to its upper-most position on start-up, everytime.
The rubber molding just in front of the left wing mirror is coming off.

I own a 1999 STS black body vanilla leather, and the looks of the car are ageless. I get compliments all the time, but when someone comes up to me and asks tells me they’ve been thinking about buying one and asks my opinion, I tell them don’t do it. Among a shitload of other things, the notorious headgasket failure is always in the forefront of my advice. One thing I can say is that the transmission is bulletproof. But again, that’s just one thing I can say……. figure it out
