Driving around town in a brand new sports car may be one of the best experiences for a driver. Sports cars don’t only give superior driving performance and comfort; they also give confidence to the owner of the car. Sports cars can be seen as the ultimate ‘eye candy’ in the automobile world.

Buying a brand new sports car can also be a scary thing because of the money involved. How do you one shop for a brand new sports car? Here are some helpful tips in doing so:

1) Think about it a hundred times
There is a big difference in buying a sports car and a sedan. There is also a big difference in between a brand new model and an older one. A buyer must carefully assess his needs several times before deciding to buy a brand new model. This is particularly true if the budget is quite tight. But even if one can generously afford a brand new model, he must remember that money that is put in the wrong car is wasted money.

A buyer should also consider waiting for a little while if he is looking at a particular model which is new but is on the verge of being taken off the “brand new” list. This move could save him a lot of money while getting the same value that he would have gotten a few months back. This is an effective strategy if he intends to keep the car for a long time.

2) List and Check
A buyer should make a checklist of what he wants in a sports car. He should then compare the top scorers in his list. Factors such as size, comfort, engine performance and other details may be the deciding factor for the purchase.

3) Mind the Sticker Price
Always bear in mind that the sticker price is the highest price that the market can put on a particular model. Negotiations can bring the price down if done correctly.

4) Financing First
A buyer must make provisions for financing before making a purchase. Banks may be the best choice for car financing but the approval process can take some time. A buyer must also set extra money aside for peripheral expenses such as taxes and documents processing.

A brand new sports car is a dream for everyone. When someone has the capacity to realize the dream of buying a sports car, he must be wise and careful in doing so. A good purchase will make the sports car experience much more pleasant for the buyer.

Moving overseas is certainly quite a bit more complicated than moving to another city. Unless you are going to sell your car and buy a new one at your destination, you are going to have to employ a car shipping service. Many people are unsure if it is worthwhile to have their car transported when staying overseas for a while.

Understandably, it seems like a complicated process. However, with the help of a full service auto transport service, the process is fairly simple and stress-free. If you’ve never shipped a car overseas before, this article will provide an overview about your car’s upcoming journey.

Types of Overseas Transports

The first leg of your car’s journey is the trip from your home to the port. If the port is close you can drive it yourself. If it is farther away, you will probably have the auto transport company handle that part of the journey as well.

Once your car arrives at the dock it will be shipped one of three ways: RORO (Roll On Roll Off), in a 20-foot container, or in a 40-foot container.

Roll On Roll Off is commonly used for short trips. For example, it is the most common way that cars are shipped to Hawaii or Puerto Rico. The ship is basically a large car ferry. Your vehicle is driven aboard and parked along with many other vehicles. Upon arrival, it is driven out onto the dock. RORO service is usually cheaper than container shipping. However it is also less safe and your vehicle is more likely to be damaged. This shipping method covers the car itself. There is no provision for shipping any personal belongings.

A 20-foot shipping container is a safer method of auto transport. The car is loaded into a standard shipping container, secured so it doesn’t move during the trip, then the container is brought aboard the ship. Most of the time these smaller containers will fit only the car itself. If there is room in the container some shippers will allow you to ship personal belongings as well.

The best solution for shipping both your vehicle and household items is a 40-foot shipping container. The other items are loaded in first then a wooden bulkhead is placed in the container to separate these items from the car. The vehicle is driven into the container and secured as above. This shipping method is safer for both the car and your other belongings but is likely to be the most expensive shipping method.

Other Details of Overseas Auto Transport

Overseas transport is going to be more expensive than typical ground car shipping. Shipping will incur port fees at the destination. If shipping to another country, you will have to pay that country’s tariffs. Finally, your insurance will almost certainly not cover your vehicle during the trip. You will need to purchase maritime insurance which generally costs 1%-3% of the price of the vehicle.

International shipping has stricter documentation requirements. You will need the original title to the vehicle and may need other documentation depending on the destination. An experienced international auto transport company will be able to help you with the details so that you can get everything prepared before your move.

If you’ve just bought a car online, you need to find a way to get it to your home. Or maybe you are moving and don’t want to drive the car yourself. The most common method of moving a car long distances is an auto transport service. However many people find it is cheaper to use a drive away company instead. But is the cost savings worth it?

Car Shipping vs. Drive Away

An auto shipping service loads your car onto a trailer with other cars headed for the same destination or for another destination along the way. They coordinate shipments among many customers since the more cars they can load onto a trailer, the more economical the trip is. This can cause delays as they wait for a minimum of vehicles all headed in the same direction.

When you use a drive away service, they assign a person who to drive your car wherever it needs to go. Your car may be able to get to the destination sooner than a shipping service since it is a direct point-to-point trip with no detours for other vehicles.

Drive Away Adds Miles

The primary advantage of drive away is that the service is often cheaper than using a shipper. However there are a number of potential problems that come along with this savings.

When your car is shipped on a trailer, there is no wear and tear on the engine. On the other hand, using a drive away service puts miles on the car and that adds hidden costs to the service such as oil and fluid changes. Also, what happens if your car has problems along the way? If a driver gets stuck with an overheated or vehicle or a lit ‘check engine’ light, you’ll also be paying for time in the shop and lodging for the driver.

Professionals vs. Amateurs

The main difference between auto transport and drive away is the quality of the drivers. Car shipping services use professional drivers. Your car is under the care of an experienced and trained specialist. This person is being paid to do a job and therefore has a personal stake in getting your car to its destination on time and in good shape.

On the other hand, there is no such thing as a professional drive away driver. Instead, drive away services are used by people who need to travel long distances and are looking for cheap alternatives to renting a car. Drive away drivers aren’t paid for what they are doing. They get a free trip and a gas allowance in return for their driving services.

To be fair, drive away companies have standards for their drivers. They require clean driving records, references, and generally require drivers to be at least 21. However that is no guarantee of the quality of the driving. After all, this person is driving someone else’s car and it’s easy to get careless when it’s not your vehicle.

You get a lot for the extra cost of a car shipping service, and that extra cost might be less than you think.

Seat belts have the ability to better protect vehicle occupants from fatal accidents than anything else. According to federal statistics, in 2003, the use of seat belts saved nearly 15,000 lives nationwide. However, even more than 6,000 deaths per year are related to the improper use — or the failure to use — the proper seat belt restraints during a car crash.

Seat belts save more than lives – they save the nation money. Every year, seat belts save society approximately $50 billion in medical care, lost productivity and other injury-related costs nationwide. But seat belt failure has tremendous costs.

Seat Belt Defects – More Common Than You Think

Though the national average for seat belt use is at a high of 71 percent, due mainly to a $3.7 million “Click It or Ticket” campaign which used paid advertising to encourage seat belt use, nearly 10,000 out of roughly 30,000 automobile crash deaths in 1999 were related to the failure to use seat belts.

However, these statistics do not show the number of people injured or even killed due to defective seat belts. In fact, each year a number of car companies recall automobiles due to defects in seat belt design.

The purpose of wearing a seat belt is so that it can prevent or minimize what is called the second collision. The first collision is when the vehicle makes an impact with another vehicle or object. In the second collision, the occupant of a car makes impact with the vehicle’s interior, or is ejected and then hits the ground. Seat belt use helps protect a car’s occupants from fatal second collisions with a vehicle’s windshield, steering wheel, or roof.

Defective seat belts may not properly restrain occupants of a vehicle due to poor manufacturing or design. These malfunctions include:

* “Inertial unlatching”, which takes place when a seat belt becomes unlatched during a collision. Buckles without a “lock-for-the-latch” design are more susceptible to inertial unlatching, in which the latch plate pulls out of the seat belt’s buckle.

In 1982, a patent by General Motors said that a properly designed latch should be physically blocked in the latched position to prevent unlatching by inertia forces acting on the vehicle body. Despite these warnings, anti-inertial unlatching features are still not used in all seat belt buckles in new cars and the United States government has largely ignored inertial unlatching in its safety guidelines.

* “False latching”, which occurs when a seat belt buckle appears to be closed, but is not. False latching causes a passenger to become free from the seat belt instead of being properly restrained. A seat belt is considered to be falsely latched if it pulls free at less than five pounds of pull. False latching can cause passenger ejection from a moving vehicle or serious injury when the passenger collides with the interior of the car.

* Seat belt durability is key. This includes the material and weaving of the belt itself in addition to seat belts that have too much slack and thus load too quickly, disabling the belt’s protective webbing. Faulty seat belt retractors are also implicated in seat belt durability accidents.

Some Seat Belt Buckles Safer Than Others

Manufactures are not willing to make information public regarding seat belt buckles that are more prone to fail during crashes. Consumers are unable to make the distinction between safer safety belt models and what type of seat belt is in their vehicles until the information becomes available to the public.

Because seat belts become released during a crash, it is hard to statistically tell how many people are killed or injured every year due to their seat belt buckle.

Seat belt litigation is a crucial factor in automobile crashworthiness claims. If you have suffered injury due to seat belt failure, contact an experienced crashworthiness attorney. Your seat belt lawyer can help you assess your case and get the compensation you deserve for your faulty seat belt and related damages.
